Just had the renewal for my 2020 Fiesta ST3 and it has gone up by over £230. The insurer is Ford Insurance which is underwritten by Admiral. Having had a unpleasant experience with an insurer using their own bodyshop and after market parts I want to use an insurer that at least uses OEM parts. From googling you can argue with your insurer to use OEM parts but I would like to avoid that should I need to claim.

Are there non-manufacturer insurers that specifiy the use of manufacturer approved body shops?

I can find one called Original Insurance, but I have never heard of it before and the reviews seem 2-3 years old.

Insurers will operate with a network of 'approved repairers', usually subcontracted out as part of a wider service offering to an accident management company.

Admirals Private Car policy wording document:
We will repair your car with parts made by its manufacturer. If manufacturer parts are not held in UK stock, we will use parts that are of a similar standard and quality. If any parts are no longer produced, we will pay the cost shown in the manufacturer’s latest price guide together with reasonable fitting costs

You'll need to make sure you read the Insurers policy wording as this is ultimately what the Insurer is 'guranteeing' as a service. It's also what the insurer or ombudsman will reference in the event of a complaint with the service provided.

You can always use a repairer of your choice however this may impact the cover level provided by your insurer. Your insurer will have a fixed price sheet that they'll pay for parts and/or labour and you may be liable for any difference in these costs vs. using the insurers repair network.

Hyundai are good with this. They have their own accident line. They speak to your or both insurance companies and organise stuff for you. Then the dealer body shop and oem parts are used.

When I was not at fault they set me up with a broker who got the money back from the other side so no claim was ever made to my insurance company.
