Lo all,

Mods feel free to move this if you don't think it's relevant but I wanted to get as much exposure as possible and the two software sections are fairly quite. Plus it's only indirectly linked to software itself.

Basically I have just purchased the Adobe Master Suit and it's installed on a laptop. If the worst should happen and the laptop gets stolen where would I stand with regards to the software.

Obviously I would still have the disks and the license code but could I simply re-install it on the new computer and carry on as normal? If I informed Adobe of the theft would they cancel the old license key and give me a new one? Is it worth adding the software to my laptop policy?

Cheers for any advice you can pass my way.

Depends on the software. If it's bundled with the PC the licence is usually tied to that particular PC, if it's retail your entitled to remove it and install on a different PC so I think you'd be ok.

Best to check with the publisher however.
 
No, just precautionary. :)

Laptops are so easy to steal and while I know the hardware is insured should the worst happen, I would hate to have to fork out for the software again.

Yeah and I've done that, but if someone stole the laptop and then started using the software and I then installed it on a replacement laptop wouldn't it just flag up at Adobe as multiple copies of the same license key being used? Then I would be in trouble. The users address wouldn't make any difference there I don't think.

Tefal it was £497 with Lightroom included and subsidies by Adobe's student discount. It's more like £2.5 - 3k without the discount which is why I'm so concerned about insuring it.

I don't get what the problem is. They may steal the laptop but you should still have the install discs and original license key or if you downloaded it you mus have a registration with the Vendor site that allows you to redownload and see your particular license key.

If you're keeping the install media in the laptop bag when your moving round ten your just asking for trouble imo

If it;s that much I'd think adobe would have something in place.
 
Yeah I wouldn't bother. Whenever I've had hardware problems in the past with software that requires activation, a quick call to the publisher/company gets me a new licence sorted out.

I'd just keep the installation media/documentation somewhere separate and safe.
 
OK cool cheers guys, I won't bother adding it to the premium.

As for the paying for software side of things, I'd rather not use pirate stuff and the free apps out there just can't compare to what's included in this package.

I figured I better make full use of the discount whilst I have it available to me, otherwise it really would be out of my budget.

If your Adobe software is stolen and you can provide a valid registered serial number and a police/insurance report they will replace the dvds for free afaik if you still have them im sure a phonecall will get you back up and running.

although adobe have said in past they don't go after students/individuals who pirate PS etc, because it teaches them to use it ad keeps it a standard, they do however go after companies with the hefty legal team.
 
Yeah I know they are unlikely to hunt me down like a dog and burn the soles of my feet with red hot irons for using a pirated version but even so, I like purchased goods. This way I get a guaranteed working set of software and I don't have to go through any hassle with torrents and key gens or anything like that.
