Hey all,

Configuring my WC system - quick question..

What would be more beneficial..

Drawing air from outside the case through the rad
or
Push air from inside the case through the rad

Thanks

Nick.

Its in the top.

I read something the other day stating that its better to have your fans pushing air down bringing cooler air in from outside the case.

load of B/S?

Pretty much, any air you pull into your case from the top is going to end up re-circulated in your case and probably back out the same rad.

Heat rises, so just follow the natural flow of things :)

I thought the usual rules apply, top and back exhaust, bottom and front intake.

There is more detailed science on running positive or negative pressure in the case also, but I will freely admit to not having read about this in great detail. The notable points I took were negative pressure = more chance of dust build up, positive = less dust but potentially more warm air being recirculated

I'll be trying out my front rad as exhaust in the near future.
Right now, it puts a fair amount of heat into the case since it bears the intial brunt of the heated liquid. This then has nowhere to go but onto the pump and up into the second rad.

There'll only be a single rear intake though...

This is what I have done. Front rad exhaust, top rad exhaust, rear fan intake.

Seems to work well. Having the front rad as intake results in loads of heat in the case, most of which goes out the top rad.

I get better temps this way, but I know I am risking dust build up.

Good to hear.
Since I have a 360 taking up the entire front, it's basically a wall of heat entering the case on an extended gaming session.

Dust shouldn't be too much of an issue since I'll be replacing the side mesh with a window and the rear intake will be filtered. Any other gaps can be dealt with if necessary.

You always want rads on exhaust and any other fans on intake, you don't want to be sucking warm air in to the case and the worst thing would be to draw in warm air and then push that back over another rad

The main point of water cooling is that water is efficient at moving heat away from components, you want to get that heat as far away as quickly as you can, not pull it back inside your case
