Right i have just brought this laptop.

ey features:

* Processor: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7100, 1.8GHz supports Enhanced Intel SpeedStep® Technology
* RAM: 2048MB DDR2-667MHz
* Hard Drive: 120GB Serial ATA 4200rpm
* Display: 14.1" WXGA Widescreen TFT X-Black Technology
* Graphics: Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator X3100
* Optical Drive: DVD±RW Dual Layer
* Wireless LAN: 802.11a/b/g integrated
* Dimensions: (W x D x H) 36.6 cm x 27.5 cm x 3.5 cm
* Weight: 2.8 kg
* Operating System: Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium Edition

It has integrated graphics media accelerator x3100 and i didnt realise, it stutters on counter strike and really annoys me. Is it possible to fit a geforce graphics card in here. I heard you could if you had a pci slot. Could someone tell me if i have got a spare one as i am not a wizards on the hardware side.

remove competitor

and as far as i know, trying to install your own graphics card into a laptop with integrated will be a LOT of hassle

You are linking to a computer shop selling computer parts as well as laptops, this is against the rules as the OCUK forum is part of the main shop and its against the rules to post competitors for obvious reasons,

Read the FAQ at the top :)

As far as i can see on that laptop it doesnt have a modular ( ie removable ) graphics module so no you cannot upgrade the graphics in any way.

Some laptops have the graphics chipset on a removable card that can be changed for something else, however these cards are often almost impossible to find and are often not sold separately. They did this a few years back in a move to start making laptops more upgradable. It failed miserably and now almost ALL laptops have a built in, non changable graphics chip soldered onto the mainboard.

It very much looks like you have this so sadly you cant do a thing to change the graphics im afraid. Maybe you should have done a little more research before buying.

SO basically im screwed. How would i go about playing css more smoothly then. Is there anything i can do?

Maybe it’s full of Junk from what the manufacture has installed, is it a fresh install? Or was it preloaded?

All the drivers installed? Updated the video drivers?

The spec looks good btw for a laptop:)

Very likely your laptop came with LOADS of stuff installed like norton and other things that will be running all the time an slowing the machine down. Make a post in the windows and software forum and ask how to sort these programmes out and maybe which to remove. Also you can try turning down the visual settings in vista, the less fancy it looks the more more laptop can concentrate on running the game!

There are a couple of companies working on external graphics cards for laptops, not too sure on the details but they're still "in development" I think.

For the amount they'd cost though, it probably wouldn't be worth it.

One thing, make sure you've got the latest drivers for the integrated graphics! Intel did have a recent driver release that improved their newer integrated chips by a fair margin.

Echoing everyone else though, just make sure there's not a lot of preloaded manufacturer junk wasting resources, that's always a common problem.
The 4200rpm HD isn't too great but that'd only be loading times I'd imagine, the rest of the laptop spec is good and I see no reason why counter strike shouldn't run at acceptable frame-rates.

check and see if cs is ran in dx9 if it is knock it down to dx7 and this will give great performance gains in game. just open up console and type mat_dxlevel 70

I removed vista and then put XP on as i dont like vista at the moment with all the incompatability problems etc.

I then found all the drivers ina package on the sony site and installed them all.

Will type this into console and see what happens, will report back asap.

Oh my god.

It worked perfectly and Counter Strike is the same as i used to have it on my old lappy. What would I need to do for other games then?

Thanks soooo much.

Have done that also. Just needed one detail on medium.

How do i do this for every game though, will i need to run like pro evo, fifa 08 in dx7?
