Intel 10th Gen Comet Lake thread

Except the reality is that probably 90% of everyone here, would switch tomorrow if Intel pulled a rabbit out of a hat and leap-frogged AMD to re-take the lead by a similar margin as AMD have today, all else being equal ("Tomorrow" = whenever :p).

Nobody wants to intentionally gimp themselves (Bulldozer owners can feel free to disagree :p)
Too right, imagine being excited about a chip that uses more power than a Delorean just because it does 5GHz

Intel are in a bad place right now, so it's easy to say, "I'll never buy Intel again!"

If the roles ever reverse (life is cyclical :P), then watch these people start buying Intel again :p

They will probably still be quicker in games, until Zen3 is released,so probably not all doom and gloom. At least AMD has socket longevity...oh wait!:D

People who blindly buy a brand are as stupid as people who blindly vote for a political party. If they always have your business/vote they don't need to work for it.

That's how competition works, you buy the best product, not the brand

Ya, AMD has nothing that can touch my 5.4 GHz 9900K in like 99.9% of games. I will keep my eye out for Zen 3 though, I buy whatever is the fastest possible with zero brand loyalty.

what Vcore you pushing through that to get 5.4ghz?! Sounds like you’ve won the silicon lotto jackpot

It sounds like "Pc Gamers" are more obsessed with loading up a benchmark or FPS counter than actually playing a game.

Unless a game was a stuttering mess I'd quite imagine gaming at 1440p + on any mid range cpu with a decent GPU is going to be a good experience.

Intel definitely have the lead on a lot of gaming benchmarks I've seen. Although the differences are more prominent at low resolutions. At 4k the cpu becomes more or less irrelevant and that difference is a couple of percent. Noticeable only to someone obsessing with benchmarks again.

The way I see it is that if you own an RTX 2080 you're gonna have a good gaming experience on any CPU that costs more than £150. However if you are streaming and doing cpu intensive work then one CPU manufacturer is providing considerably more bang for buck right now.

Multiplier?

you'd be correct the bottom part of the graph is the cpu multiplier and to the left is the voltage most likely required at each multiplier stage and finally to the right is the power draw, from the looks of it around 5.2ghz+ the cpu will pull around 300+ watts! OUCH.

my 3900x at 4.4ghz all core overclock at 1.335v only pulls 147w under full load for comparison, but the fabrication process is vastly different 7nm vs 14nm

So have they fixed all the security holes with this generation yet? And I mean hardware fixes not micro code and software.

I'm afraid until those are properly fixed then I wouldn't even consider an Intel CPU, no matter how much faster they were.

10th gen is only a refresh so i'd say the security flaws are still there to an extent, i could be wrong, if so i apologize.
we'll have to see what intels upcoming 10nm products are like, i suspect being built on a different node most if not all flaws will be fixed, i hope

Lol, you have more chance of stepping out your front door, getting struck by lightning, surviving, then walking down the street and getting run over...than you have of ever being a victim of these security holes.

its not about being a victim, it the patches that Intel release that takes performance away from said chips

I've just moved over to Ryzen 3900X after being with Intel since the C2D E6300 came out, when I moved from an AMD Athlon XP. Just a bit disappointing with Intel's progress so it was time to try something new. My trusty Devil's Canyon 4790K had done me superbly since Aug 2014 though. Never say never :)
