Intel 10th Gen Comet Lake thread

Intel price cuts on 10th gen line up

Hmm, when are the new Intel chips due? If the prices are not bad I might jump on the 10900K or... If it's not too far away I'll wait for the new Intel chips. I badly need an upgrade from the 3770K.

Price is right on the 10900K or 10850, a few deals there if you can find them in stock.

Hmm, I'm wondering if I should go for the 10900K after seeing this?

8 cores instead of 10 but the PCI-e 4.0 was tempting to wait for the storage.

If you are playing anything other than 1080p then there is little to no difference between intel and its AMD counterpart in gaming.

It all depends on what your user case is and what you currently have

Anyone else thinking about just getting a 10600k and riding out until ddr5? I was hoping for a bit more from amd given all the hype.

I'm debating on keeping this 10700K or getting a 10850K until couple years into DDR5 (aka when prices come down), I've been with Ryzen since first gen 1700 and while Zen3 is great its not as spectacular in gaming as some are making it out IMO

Good choice keep the cost down or wait it out for DDR5.

you guys are gonna stay disappointed

the fact is that above 1080p we are gpu limited - it doesn't matter if the zen 3 cpu had 100% more ipc your framerate at 4k or 1440p would not change.

the CPU's job is to get out of the way of the gpu, once it's done that 1 any extra performance it can deliver goes down the toilet.

Same goes for DDR5, faster RAM helps performance only when you are cpu bottlenecked- which you never are at 1440p/4k.

We live in the age of the graphics card, it's the most important component in your gaming PC and that's where the focus of your spending should be when on A budget

after seeing what AMD released I really hoped for bang for buck 8 core and its not that well priced , I currently have the i7 6700k and its starting to show its age after 5 years I was looking at the 10850K to go with z490 board wanting others opinions if this is good alternative ? and is it correct it will be supported by rocket lake so have that option later on ? and with z490 boards is it right they can support Gen4 it could be unlocked by bios with Rocket lake ? the one thing interested me with AMD was that I plan to get the 6800xt after looking at reviews of course but will miss out on the Smart Memory feature

AMD have left the door wide open at the 8 core /£400 point as the 10850k is around the same price as the 5800x and the 10700k is quite a bit cheaper. I am in the same boat looking for an 8 core gaming CPU to last a good few years. Probably will still go AMD but it has made me look again at intel.

Not if you play a lot of games with a ton of ai working away in the game.

I got my 10900k 3 weeks ago and i do wonder if i made the right decision, my PC is purely for gaming. I know it is still a great CPU and i am wondering whether my all core OC @ 5.1 will be on par or better than the 5900x

Just because it might not be the best out there, it doesnt suddenly become a bad or inadequate cpu.

I was looking at the uplift between my 1800X and Zen3, seems a pretty spectacular uplift in gaming performance even with my graphics card.

I've got a 5900X on order and have had a 1700 and a 3700X, and while if you compare the uplift to other Ryzen CPU's it's great, when you compare it to intel it's just feels like oh you've finally caught up, after 3 generations, but to add some positivity to what I'm saying I will say the difference in death stranding is interesting, makes me wonder that in say 2 years the Zen3 and especially 5900X will be leading in everything

I’m not sure TBH quite a few games have AMD massively ahead and the 5000 series clearly has a lot more processing power than anything we have seen. I think the true performance will come when a Ryzen 3 is paired with an RDNA 2 card and games have been patched.

Indeed, that might not happen for a year, or until games change.
It would seem newer games were lapping up the ryzen, and console ports will no doubt feel the same way in the next couple of years.
AMD has brought 4 fantastic processors, the 5800 only hampered by its current pricing.
Great to see such a launch.

Shame games where AMD demolish intel I don't play haha, I can't wait to see future with 6800XT, I'm waiting on benchmarks but might swap my 3080 for one

Yeah I feel like £380 might've been better price for 5800X
