Hi all. I’ve recently just upgraded to an intel 12700k in an Asus z690 rog strix a motherboard with 32 gb ram. I’m using a Noctua nhd15 cooler. The only settings in the bios I’ve changed are to run at Xmp 1 and to sync all the cores.

My temps in windows are ok and in games like cs go, rocket league, Forza horizon 5 the cpu temp doesn’t go past 80. I loaded rainbow six siege and the cpu utilisation went to 100% and 2 of the p cores hit 100 degrees.

I did a windows virus scan and the utilisation went to 100 % and the temps went really high again. Do I need to change any settings in the bios? Is the Noctua ok for the cpu or shall I get an aio?

Thanks!

I thought the 100 % utilisation was odd too. When it was loading Rainbow six siege it was only a few seconds at 100% but the windows scan was longer. My cpu fans ramped up to max rpm to try handle it.

Yes I did a clean install of windows 10 and then upgraded to windows 11

For what it's worth a quick google shows there's a bug with Rainbow six siege that can cause 100% cpu usage so it might be worth looking into those fixes.

It's unlikely to be a bios setting that would effect cpu usage in windows. It's more likely to be down to software, driver bug etc than it is the bios.

Do you have any background programs running?

Also I'm not suggesting it's the cause, but is there any reason you fresh installed windows 10 then upgraded to 11 as opposed to fresh installing 11?

Oh wow I never thought of checking if it’s a software bug causing 100% usage. Thanks for telling me. Overall I’m really happy with the cpu and temps but seeing some cores hit 100 degrees when under full load scared me lol.

I'd only really worry if it starts doing it in every application. If it's only one game for example (even just in loading) then I'd say it's down to an issue with that program.

I'm assuming the usage is normal in the other games you've played? I know you say you were happy with temps in Forza etc

What I also do for peace of mind is use youtube to see similar specs running a game I play to gauge temps, usage etc to see if it's normal (yes I'm paranoid lol)

Yeah everything I’ve played so far the temps have been high 60s or mid 70s. The cpu usage in other games seems fine. I never see it maxed out thankfully. Thanks for replying so quickly. I feel better now
