Hi

AMD user here, but I was looking at building a mini-itx build with a 13500 or a 13600k with either a b760 chipset or the z790

the thing I dont understand, is the 13500 you cant overclock and the 760 chipset, doesnt support over clocking where the other 2 do, 13600k and Z790, But watching Youtube videos the 13500 vs 13600k the non k was running at 4.5ghz, isnt that overclocking?

13500 boosts up to 4.8Ghz

Im aware of that, but the video I watched was only boosting to 4.5 for whatever reason cooling maybe, the question I was trying to ask is Intel Boost and Manual Overclocking the same?, will it give you the same results?
 
Manual overclocking gains you nothing on 13th gen. Best bet is to default the PL1 and 2 values and then undervolt.

I was playing around with my 13700K last night, trying to find a happy middle ground between temps and the power limits.

What do you recommend as a starting point for undervolting? -100mV?

Intel's boost clock is considered a stock config, it usually has different ratios for the number of cores active, but the ratios are not the same between different CPUs, like sometimes there is less difference between the top boost clock and the all-core boost clock, but other times the top boost clock is much higher than the all-core boost.

If you manually overclock, you're usually going for an all-core clock that is somewhere close to, or above the top boost clock.

The base clock isn't really related to "running at stock" anymore, it more closely matches what the CPU needs to run at, to consistently stay at, or under the TDP. At their max all-core boost, they're nowhere near this anymore (check PL1 and PL2, link to article).

With recent Intel systems you can still 'overclock' of a kind, with non-K CPUs and motherboards, by allowing the CPU to run at the higher power limits indefinitely, but you'll also exceed the capacity of the stock cooler.

Thanks. I’ve changed the one of the power limit settings to “Tower Cooler” which limits the power to about 288w and then I set a -0.1v undervolt.

Will test it out tonight and see how it goes, because my case fans are currently far too noisy under load.
It's 253w for 13700k, 288w is for the 13900k. If your cooler can handle it, just leave PL1 and PL2 on 253w. Mine was just about ok on a 240mm aio in a sfx case.

Start with -100, check stability and then keep increasing it until you are unstable. I wouldn't put a power limit, no point to it frankly. Especially when you are testing stability, there shouldn't be a power limit in place.
