Hi everyone at the moment my MB only supports 4Gb or DDR2 DIMM RAM at 800MHz i need to get more RAM on there to run Arma 2 Dayz efficiently... what board would you suggest?

Hold up a moment - what operating system are you running? 32 bit? 64 bit?

If you're looking for a board for this the chances are that it's going to be second-hand, but your proposed RAM upgrade may not help you at all, depending on the OS you're running. Most stuff of this age people still tend to be running Windows XP, which is why I ask.

Keep in mind that you're going to be paying a premium for the older memory as well as buying a new board - you might be better cutting your losses and upgrading everything unless you can find an absolute bargain. Last time I looked at new DDR2 prices they were almost double DDR3.

Intel Quad Core Q6600 @ 2.60GHZ
3GB DDR2 RAM
I'm running Win7 64bit

This is what ive got at the moment id like to upgrade to DDR3 if possible... and possibly get 8Gb on it, im upgrading the GFX card and PSU.

What board supports the CPU and DDR3 or is this not possible

Ah you didn't mention the requirement for DDR3 thus needing to replace all your RAM. Thats a bit different as I was asuming that you were attempting to keep everything except your motherboard.

There are only 2 socket 775 boards on the OCuk website - take your pick:-

They both only have 2 DIMM slots so you will be needing 2 x 4Gb modules so will want to budget about 40 quid for that.

You're essentially spending 80 quid to stick with your same processor and you could be into a socket 1155 for about 25 quid more, but of course you'd need another CPU but just about any 1155 CPU will play Dayz very well. My son plays it and since it looks crap on his Core i5 and a Radeon 6970 I can't imagine that it's either CPU or gfx intensive. It's an rpg/mmo/fps for the minecraft generation as far as I can tell.

He may have the arma 2 free edition capping the graphics, it can look awful but if you have a bought copy of arma 2 it looks much better.

I don't really want to purchase a new cpu yet, i don't have the budget for it, i can overclock this to 3.2GHz so i'll just work around it for now.. when i have more to spend i'll update the MB, CPU and build something with the old parts and sell it off

I'll be good to spend a decent amount on a MB when i do as i'd like to futureproof a bit.
