Intel 3770K or 2700K upgrade?

I built my current PC two years ago and apart from the SSD addition, I haven't really upgraded it.

I want to upgrade my CPU (and therefore motherboard) and my GPU.

I've been searching around and I think I've found what I want...

Intel Core i7 (3770K)
ASUS Sabertooth Z77
Sapphire 7970 3GB GHZ VAPOR-X

I'm pretty set on the graphics card because it's cheaper than a GTX 680 and is equal in most benchmarks.

I'm not completely sure about the motherboard but i like the AI Suite II software a lot which is the biggest selling point for me.

I haven't decided on a 3770k or a 2700k. I can see that the 3770k is a little bit faster in benchmarks which makes me lean towards it but i could get the 2700k and save £30 because, sadly, I'm not made of money

Any advice on any of the components will help a lot!

Also if there is something new coming out before Christmas that's worth waiting for justy say because i can wait (a bit)

Thanks

What is the purpose of the PC? If gaming i'd be tempted more by the 3570k.

If you need hyper threading you mas as well get the 3770k for PCI gen 3. May come into play a bit more heavily later even if currently the difference isn't so massive.

Only thing worth waiting for is Haswell, and that's quite a while away yet (9 months, i think.)

The 3770k, is about 5%-10% faster than the 2700k. Though the major factor why i'd suggest the 3700k is that it actives the boards PCI-E gen3 feature. This should aid your GPU's performance.

I am mainly a gamer but i want to start doing more video editing which makes the hyperthreading quite useful to speed up exporting.

So the 3770k looks like my favourite choice with PCIe 3 support and hyperthreading

In regards to the motherboard, would agree it's one of the better boards or is there a better one about the same price?

Also i hear there might be the 8000 series AMD cards coming out in december or are they more likely to come out next year?

I was in the same predicament as yourself these past few weeks. I was trying to choose the 2700K over the 3770K with the helps from OCuK forums, almost everyone suggest 3770K but again as you stated £30 is a lot when you seem to have a allergy to keeping money, or gaining money.

After a wait i went from the 3770K for the minor improvements in speed and the slightly more future proof ability it has, such as PCI-E 3.0. It has about 5 to 10% increase in power, though i have seen a 25% in some applications on benchmarks. I do 3D rendering, Video editing and rendering as well as recording YouTube videos with FRAPS so extra CPU power is really welcomed. I have yet to test my 3770K but my hopes and expecations are high, im upgrading from a AMD x4 965BE so im sure it will blow me away.

The only thing the 2700K has in its major favor besides lower price is it overclock's really well (Getting a bad chip can deter this bonus though) On a H100 you can get a 2700K to 5.2GHz that beats the 3770K as the 3770K couldnt go past 4.8GHz as it was running too hot. But as twist of fate the 3770K overclocks better until you get to 1.35v, so a 3770K running at 4.4GHz is like a 2700K running at 4.6/4.7GHz. So overclocking and 24/7 use the 2700K maybe the better choice. Keeping it stock or just overclocking a bit? 3770K is amazing as well.

I got my 3770K cheaper than normal though, it is normally around £260 or so but i got it for about £10 more than a 2700K so 10% increase, for an extra £10 and i just got a raise from work for me it was a choice made for me.

Well i'm totally sold on the CPU now and i still really like the sabertooth for the motherboard.

I'm currently using a Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro rev 2 which I have to admit is pretty crappy but still better than the stock AMD cooler.

I want to get a better cooler if i'm going to upgrade to an intel. I always hear about the H100 being the best closed loop cooler. IS it worth it or is there a better closed loop cooler?

TBH, don't go for the H100. IMHO, either go for the custom water route or get high end air. :)

Yeah i can highly recommend the Noctua NH-D14. Its big, its vulger, and not to everyone's taste but it has 3770K at 4.6GHz with Prime95 getting to max 80c from 24 hour run. Hitting that 80c whilst gaming is not likely to happen, maybe spike. Voltages at 1.26 as well so nice voltage.

If you do get the H100 replace the fans, i think anyone will tell you that.

Apparently there is a clash between the heatsinks on my ram and the Noctua-D14, so that might not be an option.

If i was to get the h100 I would replace the stock fans with Compucase CF-V12HP. They should push more air and hopefully be less whiney.
