Intel 3770K, a 3930K or a 4770K?

Which one is the best for gaming and video encoding? Also how are the temps for overclocking?

How about upgrade paths in a few years?

If you are doing a lot of video encoding then probably the Sandy-E chip will perform better, or maybe consider an AMD with lots of cores although that may degrade the gaming side too much.

I meant a normal haswell, but with 6cores. I suppose its unlikely as theyll want to save that for 2011. Sad to see intel are going back to old ways thanks to lack of AMD competition.

Leaving upgrade paths aside, for video encoding the 3930k will outperform the 4770k. The 4930k even more so from Sep onwards.

Can you justify the price difference between haswell and SB-E/ivy-E for the purposes of increased performance in certain situations? I could and did.

Haswell upgrade paths? My guess is nil.

SB-E upgrade paths? Ivy-E and beyond that, nil.

thank you for your comments. i need a new pc soon as mine is on its last legs. could i wait until September, not too sure. maybe buy the 3930k and upgrade to the 4930k next year?

I'm looking for 3d rendering performance, but i could get the weaker 4770k and network my current i920 to it for rendering.

go for the 3930k, using rendernodes is usefull, but any package I've used farms out whole frames to other machines, so when doing single images, or test renders, having the fasted single machine you can is more beneficial. Using multiple machines is great for rendering animations though, but either way you will presumably still have your current machine? so i'd say 3930k and overclock it. I do 3d rendering myself and the speed of putting out test renders is very helpful as its less interruption to work flow, does depend how you work though.
