Intel 5960X. Best CPU ever made.

I think you would have to put the 5960 into the " fun/nostalgic project" category if your were going to be building a pc nowadays

Q6600 and 2600k i7 were both overclockers for me, the 2600k is still my main pc - I used to run it at 4.8ghz, these days it sits at a cooler 4.2.

I also had the cheapest amd 6 core phenom 2 which had a stock clock of just 2.8ghz mine overclocked to 4ghz with a bit of tlc for its lifetime in an Asus tuf motherboard.

Q6600@3Ghz (most of them will do +25% overclock out the box without any adjustment of voltages) would still hold up today for general web-browsing and light to moderate productivity tasks if pared with an SSD and reasonably fast RAM, albeit using quite a lot of power to do so compared to current CPUs. It is still similar performance to the mid-range 4 core Windows tablets, etc.

You can even play many modern games on one today albeit with a lot of settings turned down.

Built a 3950X rig for a friend a few years ago- my payment was his old 5960X, mobo and RAM.
Checked Anandtech's comparison thingy, and it apparently has less grunt, and far higher power consumption than my old 2700X.
It's still sat in a box, waiting for me to do something with it.

Seems a waste, as I know that thing cost a fortune new...
