sorry if this has been posted before.

click on this link to the bbc website and click on the video half the way down.

the guy from intel explains they have gone from single to dual to quad core and they will be making 8 core processors next year!!!!!

sorry didn't intend to use the C word it just popped out, how do you cool 8 cores.... low power yes but 8 cores at 3ghz or so is still gonna kick out some serious heat

:p I was just kidding.

I would bet on them being between 105-135w tdp. Don't ask me how, but i just can't see processors being sold that crank out more heat than that.

Can any one remember a news topic back along that had a thin layer of atoms that instead of being staionary moved which allowed things to be a lottt cooler?

They said they where going to try and move them into the CPU market im sure but this must have been last year now at least and I haven't heard anything more on the topic...

Just to add.... I'm not 100% im correct with what I said but it was somethign to do with a very thin film that allowed air to pass across horizonitly maybe.... Or maybe it moving cause the air and allowed it to be a lot cooler...

Does anyone know what i'm talking about...

@dougie: from the beeb

plus there were rumours of ocz hydrojet, well overdue by now, but no sign to date...

Yay! Im not insane:D

That's the story.... Only from just a few months back:confused:

Time is going so slow atm...

Cheers anywho on proving my sanity and for finding the future cooling methods of our little pieces of sand:D

Edit: Would be good if they could incoporate these things into the IHS would it not?

The process cannot shrink indefinitely. Exploiting light rays has its limits. And then ..... lets look at software and "make it better" ... but ? how? all this time we assumed the CPU can eat all these cubic algorithms for breakfast! oh NOes!

ps: The era of CPU, the new transistor!

You should be familair with intels stratergy now, architecture upgrade then die shrink, The quad cores seem OK at 65nm so 8 cores at 45 should be ok and 16 on 35mn eventually. :D

How small can they go. We need quantom processors already, or will it be light based first?
