Hi guy's. There have been a lot of people asking recently about if their 965P DS3/DS3P etc will work with a E8200/8400/8500 cpu. As nobody really knew the answer i emailed Gigabyte yesterday to see what they said. Here is their answer:-

This CPU is more suitable for X38/ P35 chipsets.

There is a BETA BIOS F6g to enable 45nm CPU with non official support, due to Intel having no official guarantee for 45nm CPUs on non-3 series chipsets.

So there is a beta bios for these boards but no official support. On top of that it looks like Intel did'nt design the Wolfdales to work on 9 series chipset's. So you can either try it to see if it works or just buy a new mobo along with the cpu. If i can find the beta bios (they did'nt provide me with a link) i will add it later.

Yeah the beta BIOS's have been up on their site for a few hours now.

Even the rev 1.0's are given Penryn support, tho you have to manually set the FSB to 1333mhz.

Interesting that a bios revision gives the wolfies a chance on the old DS3 v1 no less. Certainly be interesting to see how they fair, but a braver man than me can try (horror stories ive seen.... people trying chips not designed for mobo`s , and in turn nuking a lot more than just the chip and mobo) Bios updates, no matter how many you do, i always fear for my life somethink will go **** up !
