If you have an Asus P5WD2-Premium mobo its possible to run the new 965EE CPU even though Intel officially say you need a 975X platform.

On this particular mobo you need to get the 0709 beta bios then as long as you plug in the CPU 12V connectors on the mobo it will work ok.

Should be the same on other i955x mobos as well as long as they have support in the bios for Dual Core CPUs (8xxx + 9xxx series) & native 1066FSB.

Saves buying a new mobo before Conroe comes out!

Do you have any source on this - or have you had the opportunity to try this for yourself?
The only reason I ask is that I have a system based around an Intel 955 motherboard.
I went for a 955 chipset over a 925 because I was under the impression that with a BIOS update the 955 would be OK for at least the first generation Conroe.

There is still no official announcement on this - so for all I know as soon as Conroe is on the shelf the BIOS updates for the 955 based motherboards will appear and we'll be laughing.
However any advanced information to say the 955 chipset should do the job would be welcomed.

The guy on this thread has it working! Methinks Intel & their partners obviously want to shift new mobos when Conroe is out but I believe it may work on I955X chipsets as long as they have an updated bios for the 9xxx series CPUs, have the extra PSU connectors on the mobo, & can support @ least an FSB of 1066. Not sure if VT is supported on I955X though but thats pretty worthless to most users anyway!
