Hi guys,

Having loads of problem with hot swapping drives on the Intel ICH8R chipset.
I can use the Gigabyte chipset and hotplug works fine, get the disconnect drives icon, and it even lets me disconnect SATA 1 drives.

Whilst using the Intel ICH8R in ACHI mode, I do not get any icon even when I use SATA 2 drives.
I have trie the following drives:
SATA1 Maxtor DM10 160gb
SATA2 Hitachi T7k250 250gb
SATA2 Samsung spinpoint 250gb

Anybody else have any luck?
Even on any of the other intel AHCI chipsets?
Thanks in advance

There is a thread on the on another forum about something similar, I have also had problems with the DQ6 and the Intel controller and the Gigabyte controller.

Just this minute I have booted my machine and for some reason there are no IDE devices and the Gigabyte/Jmicron controller has the yellow exclamation mark next to it! it was fine when i shut down last night!

I will get the link for you and post it back here.

On a side note does everyone think that there have been more problems than expected with the C2d chips and the 965 chipset or is it just me?

Here is the link, scroll down a touch and there is a "guide"

Thanks for the reply and if you could find that post it would be a great help.

And yeah, I have had a fair few problems, such as buying incompatible ram! DVD running in PIO mode etc.

This is my last problem to sort now!

Sounds like there is a problem with the driver for your gigabyte controller, have you tried re-installing them or looking for updated drivers?

I am trying to download the driver again but the Gigabyte site is crawling!

When they were working my DVD drivers were in DMA mode but like i said for some reason this morning they have stopped working!

Check my original post, the link is there now, scroll down about half way and the info is there.

Great thanks. But damn, I had tried tried that and still nothing :(
I also tried a clean install and used the F6 disk option to install the AHCI drivers.

I was planning on switching the Gigbyte channel off and just using the Intel, but guess I may have to use the gigabyte for my removable drive caddies.

I know what you mean about the gig website, its shockingly slow....

That guide did actually work for me to be fair from a clean install.

Me thinks new drivers and BIOS's are need sooner rather than later!

Yeah definately! I am keeping my eye on their website.

Well I am now using the Intel ports for RAID0 and the gigabyte for removable caddies.
Up and running and all is going well, so i guess i will live with it :)
