Hey,

I saw these the other day and thought id post them up, they are interesting benchmarks for anyone who runs full disk encryption with Truecrypt (which added support earlier this month) or anything else that supports Intel's AES Instruction Set.

This CPU feature has had very little media attention, but I think it's a great addition.

It's included in the Gulftown CPUs and a couple of others from 2010 I think, and AMD are catching up with it sometime in 2011.

Standard Software Encryption:

Intel's AES Instruction Set:

That's pretty impressive running AES at 2GB/s (almost 7x faster than pure software algorithms). Significantly faster than HDD I/O speeds, but still very nice for doing in memory encryption.

Very Nice. :D

Now all they need to do is somehow make Truecrypt suitable for use with SSDs that use TRIM and wear-levelling and we'll be able to make good use of those speeds. :) This might not be possible in software tho... it's another problem due to the hardware differences of SSD's. :( For now I'll have to stick to my Raptor's if I want FAST and SECURE. :)

edit: added linkage. :)
