Intel and AMD CPU speeds; are they the same?

Anything between 0-100% has been marked, but in usual stuff its 5-40% really 
using far less power and overclocking like the dogs danglies!

It is hard to say specifics cos it isn't that simple 
, you have to compare the models your looking at and in the applications you use.

It is true to say that you cannot compare clock speeds to see which is the faster processor as it is no longer that simple
A 2GHz P4 will be slower than a 2GHz A64 which in turn is slower than a 2GHz Core2
They all run at the same clock speed though. The clock speed is simply the rate at which the computer clock oscillates, that is, how many instructions are executed per second. Different architectures require different numbers of clock cycles to execute a command - the P4 will require more clock cycles than an A64, for example, hence why the real performance of the chip is slower at the same clock frequency

In single core processor AMD's 2Ghz is faster then Intels 2Ghz.
my old amd [email protected] out performed my mates P4 3Ghz HTT CPU except on encoding/decoding but apps,games,windows mine was same or little better far as i remember. we used same GFX card and Ram

Back on the topic, the ghz measurement is standardised as it's a simple measure of the number of cycles per second.
The difference comes in the amount of work that can be done on each cycle, Intel's Core 2 Duo does more work per cycle than the equivelent AMD, hence why for the same clock speed, the C2D will get better performance.
