Well Ladies and Gentlefolk, they're here (almost)!

The first Intel hexacore CPUs have been officially announced, lead by the i9 8950HK.

https://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-announces-new-45W-8th-Gen-hexacore-Coffee-Lake-H-CPUs-led-by-the-Core-i9-8950HK.293630.0.html

i9 8950HK
Base clock - 2.9GHz
Turbo clock (single core) - 4.8GHz
Cores/Threads - 6/12
Smart cache - 12MB
Unlocked

i7 8850H

Base clock - 2.6GHz
Turbo clock (single core) - 4.3GHz
Cores/Threads - 6/12
Smart cache - 9MB
Partially unlocked

i7 8750H
Base clock - 2.2GHz
Turbo clock (single core) - 4.2GHz
Cores/Threads - 6/12
Smart cache - 9MB
Locked

Early tests suggest the 8750H is 50% faster than the 7700HQ, though it's hardly surprising.

Personally can't wait to see the new range of laptops, I'd guess they'll be available end of April to early May... Just need NVidia to announce their new GPUs (a man can dream) to be uber excite.

I hope the i9 variant won't cost £2500K+ but I wouldn't be surprised either way.

What say you, OcUK?

Really need a new laptop, my 2011 MBP has died so I currently have no way to work from home, but I now don't want to buy one until these drop. Grr!

Christ, the Asus G703 looks pretty coo'. Wonder if this'll force the 7700HQ prices down or if they'll be seen as the entry level i7 going forward...

This calls for 25 lottery tickets!

I'm hoping that there will be a lightweight 1060 laptop going down in price now *crosses fingers* I should have got the gigabyte P34k 1050 ti before it went out of stock forever :(
The prices are so high at the moment :(

It's odd there's been no mention of an updated MSI GS43 or Aorus X3... I also love the idea of 14" powerhouse, was gonna opt for a GS43 but went for (and subsequently sold) GS63 Stealth.

I remember thinking £1200 for a laptop was expensive, nowadays £2500 is still only upper tier... Crazy

45w is insane. The tdp has come along so much so quickly!

I wish my surface book 2 had a bit more cooling for the cpu. Its the weak point of the device for sure

I’ve just ordered the HP Spectre X360 15 with 8705G, did I pull the trigger too soon? I think it only just got upgraded...

Depends what you’re using it for. The 8705G is a good balance of CPU and GPU power for occasional gaming whilst maintaining portability.

Mostly work, web browsing, Netflix and occasional gaming (older titles). I just don’t want to have bought at full value if a refresh is imminent.

They’re separate products that offer slightly different performance. There won’t be a 6 core chip with Vega imminently.
