Hi all, i had a 3.8ghz overclock that was prime stable for 8 hours so i ran intel burn test and it failed, so i then reset the bios back to default settings and ran intel burn test again and it still failed is something wrong with my pc or is it just a fault with intel burn test? im running windows 7 RC1 (64bit)

my specs are:
i7 920
gigabyte EX58-UD3R
6gb OCZ gold 1333Mhz
600watt OCZ stealthxstream

Operating system :- Windows 7 (64bit)

EDIT: forgot to say it seems to fail when it finish's the second test no matter what settings i use, default or overclock

Well that's not good. What voltage were you running the processor at?

It's rather more likely to be a fault with your computer. Download a new copy of ibt and check its md5sum before using it. How well does it do with prime, and what temperatures are you hitting?

well i just ran prime for 8 hours and my max temp was 75*c and thats at a 3.8ghz overclock my vcore voltage is 1.28 which is rahter low i think, and when i set everything to stock i idle around 30 - 34c with a max of 62 - 69c. I have ran OCCT for 2 hours and passed and now prime95 for 8 hours and passed. Just wierd that IBT fails at the same point even on stock:s tommorow im going to run the linpack test built into OCCT and see if it pass's that. If it does surley its a problem with IBT and not my pc?

EDIT: i have never ran my processor higher then 1.3vcore

That's good news, makes hardware failure unlikely.
Delete your copy of ibt and re-download. It's also very possible that windows has corrupted which is the next step I guess, somewhat more time consuming though

I have the exact same problem, maybe its a bug in burntest?
I also use 6gb of OCZ gold 1333Mhz but a different mobo (P6T) and visra 64bit.

Intel Burn Test rapes your system like no other stress test system does, 9 times out of 10 if your stable in Prime/Orthos/OCCT you wont pass IBT.

Just relax the timings on your RAM to eliminate that as a failure and run IBT again, if it fails try reducing your FSB while keeping the Vcore the same as it is for 3.8Ghz.

Temps will be 20% hotter aswel when running IBT over the other stress test programs.

RAM is a big failuer in IBT :(

I just ran Linpack which to my understanding is the same as intel burn test and i passed it so my pass list is now:

Prime95 (8 hours) - PASS
OCCT (1 hour) - PASS
Linpack (1 hour) - PASS
ITB - FAIL (only made my temps 2*c higher then prime95 or OCCT)
Mem Test - PASS

and as game4it has the same problem im thinking its very likely to be a problem with ITB itself + i passed Linpack which is the same program just a different name. What do you guys think?

I think you should take Sunday off and give the machine some real world useage! :)

Just doing your normal thing (gaming, encoding, etc) can be a good stability test in itself . . . . not sure if IBT is finding an error or is in fact at error itself

You done any Benchmarking yet? :p

For some reason i try to use Asus smartdoctor but it says cannot load EIO.dll :( and i bought the asus version of the HD4890 just so i could clock it upto 950mhz-.-

I buy Asus Gfx cards but i never use smartdoctor as it nearly always has issues...

I would recommend you use Rivatuner or CCC as they're updated far more frequently and as such are far more compatible with drivers and OS's.

With regards to your other problem you may find this of interest - it's off another thread and was a suggestion given by Corsair to get IBT stable:

Someone on Corsair Support Forum told me to set IBT to run 16 threads because there is some kinda problem when you select 8 threads... or at least this is what he told me... I was kinda suspicious about all this, as I thought I would only need to have 8 threads running on my CPU...

Anyway, I tried this out, and sure enough, it worked like a charm, and my system passes the test no sweat!!!

Additional: If the above doesn’t sort your problem out -

Also, bear in mind that it may not be a fault per se - more that IntelBurnTest is stressing a combination of BIOS settings that are not compatible with that particular test. And, with that in mind, the problem may never manifest itself in other programs.

IntelBurnTest is very aggressive and none of your games or applications will even come close to achieving the amount of stress that this app applies to the cpu. You’ve stated everything else runs fine - prime95, memtest, orthos – and lots of people would have passed their system as stable after that little lot.

I would relax and enjoy your system for while – use and abuse it with games and apps, if it remains stable then it very likely is.
