A bit of an odd thread perhaps, but what's in it for Intel?

Couldn't they just remove support for what is essentially AMD's technology and deal a further blow to AMD?

Not really as they would be giving Nvidia a free rein to anyone wishing to utilise multi gpu configurations. Nvidia are a bigger competitor to intel than AMD;).

It sells Intel chipsets by the bucketload. AMD sell more graphics cards.

It's win-win.

So basically they'd rather have everyone buying AMD cards than nVidia ones. Why are nVidia such a big deal? They're hardly huge in the CPU market, and Intel isn't exactly winning anyone over in the 3D graphics market.

Or do nVidia have a large chunk of the integrated graphics market, which Intel would quite like?

Both are currently in a stand-off where NVidia are refusing to give intel the rights to mak SLI boards with there own chipset and Intel are now refusing NVidia the rights to make chipsets for motherboards based around Nehelem.

Intel are now developing 'Larabee' - which will hopefully be a competitior to Nvidias GPU's so it makes financial sense to hurt Nvidia as much as possible as they will soon be competitors not only for onboard but also for dedicated GPU's. NVidia are a much larger threat to intel than AMD as they are a much larger company despite AMD now having ATI under its belt.

Simply put it's like a kid in a playground saying if I can't play I'm taking my ball home.

nVidia won't give Intel SLi rights, so they'd much prefer to support ATi/AMD Crossfire just to 'annoy' nVidia more than anything else.

Nvidia are far bigger in the computer world than amd, intel and nvidia dont get along, nvidia wont let intel make sli compatiable chipsets so intel spat its dummy out of its pram and said no nehalm for nvidia.

So intel doesnt want to see nvidia grow as a company because it may become a theat, rummors are nvidia nearly bought amd a few months ago

I suppose it makes sense then, I hadn't heard about that.:)

I don't think that last part is true. AMD are a bigger company. Nvidia couldn't afford to buy them.
