Should I be 'interested' in one of these CPU's if one came up on an auction site?

It's might be labelled 'QICK ES Costa Rica'.

Andi.

Andi the thing is ES cpu's remain the property of Intel and legally can never be sold. They are of course sold all the time. The difference between a ES CPU and a retail CPU is dependant on what stage of the CPU development the ES comes from. SandyBridge for example all the retail CPU's are better than the ES ones. With certain 980X ES CPU's to use another example they clocked better but broke very easily. You take your chances and don't cry after is the rule with ES. Cos if it breaks you are on your own.

I would go ahead and get it then contact Intel . From what I have seen is These chips are usually only given to test sites and Intel will replace the one you have with a much better chip, normally a consumer chip that is not due out for a few months.

They won't replace the chip, they will be reporting you for handling stolen goods and asking where you got it from to pursue legal action against the seller.

Don't buy it, it's soooo been raped to an inch of it's life, When I use to test ES chips the first thing I did was rape it, this will be no different.
