Does anyone know if you can use 2 normal X1900XT-X's with the new Intel Chipset Conroe boards or do you need a Mastercard? I was thinking of aquiring another HIS X1900 XT-X ICEQ3 SILENT Heatpipe 512MB at a later stage maybe but that depends on the above query. . .

Thanks,

Drivers for the x1900\x1800 series can't do away with the master card seeing as the master card has a compositing chip which assembles the image together.

but wasnt the new crossfire mobo meant to come with the crossfire chip on them, so that the mobo would put the info together then give it to 1 of the gfx to send to the monitor

Nope that was just a rumour that was going about, was supposed to be in the 6.5's acorrding to the rumour, but x1800 XL/XT/x1900 still require mastercards, x1800 gto and below do not, but only on the x1k series. :)

I have heard that on the new intel Chipsets, you will be able to run crossfire with anything upto X1900GT without a Mastercard.

Ive been trying to find the information but i forgot to bookmark it

Anyway, its all speculation until we get hard evidence

Yeah the CAT 6.6s will allow exactly that, just read it over at XS news.

Just found me link, i will edit out the source as its frowned upon here

***** can exclusively report that the new ATI driver which is soon to be unleashed will now enable software crossfire up to X1900GT. This means no more hassle in having to find a master card, or an external cable.

I may have been wrong with the Intel bit,
