I have an ASUS P5AD2 motherboard that I bought 2 years ago and fitted a P4 3.6 to it.

Can I just replace the P4 with the E6600?
If not will it mean a BIOS upgrade?
Will I have to re-install XP again?
Will I see a big difference in everyday applications eg encoding AVI's etc?

Thanks

Unfortunately. I would've suspected just from the age of the board, but the chipset confirms it. Even newer chipset boards have had to have hardware revisions done to support core 2 cpus.

My e6300 clocked a lot better than current E6400's.

6300 went to 3.3
6400 went to 3.1

Both prime stable ofcourse.

I've since moved the 6400 to the wife's machine, and nicked her 6600, she ain't noticed ...

Have you?

Lol yes mate, she's using her computer now, and she has no idea of the "Swap round". Though she knows something is wrong, because my mates were laughing when I was doing it.

Lol wish mine was interested in computers, she only uses mine to do the banking and online shopping, anything else makes me a nerd ???

At least I can game in peace though!
