Which processor should i buy for my new gaming system?
I've read on Tom's Hardware and other places that the core 2 duo knocks the Athlon X2 out

I was thinking of getting an X2 for sure but after reading up on the duo 2 i am not sure

- Regards :)

yep, i'd go conroe myself if i was to upgrade from my 3700 A64. however it would be hard going to the 'darkside' i've always stuck to A64 for the gaming performance and the value for money but these conroes are different beasts from your P4's.

if your upgrading from scratch then C2D, if its just cpu upgrade from existing 939 then go for a x2, otherwise your upgrading new board & ram

Ok thanks for the reply's :) which conroe should i get? since i was going to get the x2 4800 processor

Two sweet spots in C2D range

6300 and 6600

TBH a 6300 a DS3 an some geil 6400 will see you a very nice balanced system.

If the extra cache is important then get the 6600

IMO not worth the extra 100+ quid it costs.

6300 clocked to 3ghz + is fast enough anyway.

now it is yea, but before p4's were not as good as A64's although they were not crap crap they defo were not the gamers choice.

Why post? We're not talking about anything other than the current market.

i've seen benchmarks where the E6400 has out performed the FX62 in certain categories and been close in a lot of the other tests Clicky
