I am a little confused as to which processors in the intel Core 2 range are better than others (non clocked). Could someone enlighten me a little on what each of the (seemingly) random numbers mean. A link to some nice little charts showing performance against other chips would be nice too (my google skills are failing me :o ).

Thank you. :)

Well the higher the number the faster the CPU is at stock. Eg- the E6750 is a lot faster than the E2160 at stock.

I'm sorry but I just can't believe anyone who can successfully register on this forum cannot put "C2D specs" into google.

Here's your spoon

Ouch..

I didn't think of "C2D specs" as a a google search term, I looked for things like "conroe speed" etc.

And although thanks for looking and finding that but it isn't actually what I was looking for. I eventually found it on my own though, this sort of thing http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/cpu-charts-2007,review-2351-21.html was what I was looking for. :)

The ignorance of some people astounds me. I thought it was fairly obious that a bigger number means faster (when they are all same family, eg the amd singles vs pentiums was a differnt matter.)

I keep reading the question wondering if there is more to it. You wanted to know which of the processors was the best? umm...

Yep, the ignorance of people astounds me too. ;)

Actually to be fair on both of you, I did sort of word the question wrong, although I did ask at the end for charts which showed the performance of each chip against each other, which TBH isn't obvious with the names the chips have. Yes it is easy to tell which chips are better (and I suppose you could mistake the first part of the question for that) but what I wanted was actual performance figures showing the speed of say Raring a file between each chip (which my second post pointed out).

So please read the whole thread before posting comments.

And TBH they are not actually all the same family, some are conroe, some are allendale, different chip types, hence different performance (all be it only slightly)

Thank you...

i cant belive some of the attitudes of people on hwere when someone asks us a question for help. and you get people replying saying he is ignorant. people like that shouldbet be allowed on this forum. i appologise on ther behalf amp34. and to those others may your rigs melt in blaze of fire from a lighting strike

You don't need to apologise dude, I have been on these forums long enough to realise sometimes people can be a bit obnoxious, and sometimes people word their questions wrong(especially me :o ).

Thanks for the support though. :)

It may be obvious, but it isn't necessarily true. The OP's question was a resonable one and deserved a reasonable answer rather than derision.
