Hi All,

I am using an Abit AW9D Max Motherboard with an intel core 2 Quad 2.66ghz CPU.

The base unit was dropped and afterwards, the PC would not boot, not even the POST stage, I stripped it down and reassembled it, and I was getting POST error code 9.0 on the Mboard.

I left the PC off for 24hrs when I came back to it I reset the Bios using the switch on the motherboard, all is ok now and it is running smoothly, apart from one thing, during the POST diags, it reports the CPU as Intel Core 2 Quad but in brackets it has (2 CPU's) wheras previously it said 4, the same is the case in Windows. I have flashed my bios to teh latest version, with no effect. As I said before the PC is now running fine, but I cannot find an explanation as to why 2 cores have potentially "disappeared" Is it possible that 2 of the cores are damaged and the system as "mapped" around them? Any help would be appreciated.

Did you drop the entire unit, or was it the CPU that you dropped? If the latter, it could be some bent pins. If not, I would say you have probably damaged a connection between the dual cores (the C2D quads are just two dual cores sandwiched together).

It was the base unit itself whilst I was moving house. Is it possible I have bent some pins whilst re-seating teh cpu? If so, is there anything I can do?
