I agree with save your money & overclock what you have.. Since the QX seem really unnecessarily expensive considering what you're jumping from, to go from Q6600 & spend near £700 for unlocked multiplier, 600Mhz more, some more cache & slightly faster FSB, personally for me isn't worth it... You can get the extra 600Mhz with overclocking your current chip, it would seem most people can achieve 3Ghz on the Q6600 without any voltage adjustments, if you read around OCuk you can essentially find out all that you need to overclock properly, that's how I've been getting ready too.

No amount of overclocking is going to get him the extra 4MB of cache these have.
Plus they are 45nm so run cooler.

If you have the cash, go for it.

i'm running a similar system at the moment, without the quad, gonna wait for the teething problems with quads and the 45nm processors to get out of the way first then consider upgrading in q2 2008

Even overclocked, the Yorkfield won't pay back the massive outlay. Near to £700 for a fairly minor upgrade, thats just silly.

Early benches put Yorkfields faster by a few 100Mhz ahead of Kentsfields clock for clock, and they appear to be OCing ok, but the Q6600 is tried and tested, and will OC nicely to mid 3Ghz levels.

For that amount of money you could buy a completely new system. IF you are chasing performance gains then buy a decent water cooling setup for the Q6600 and save the rest for an upgrade to one of the cheaper Yorkfields in jan/feb.

QX = waste of time
