Still looking at Sony Vaio notebooks and looking at the N range of Vaio's.

Trying to establish which is best value for money and best performance...

SONY VAIO N21 S/W
Intel Core2 Duo T5200 1.60GHz
120GB
1GB
15.4IN X-Black
DVD/RW
Vista Home Premium

£749

SONY VAIO N11 S/W
Intel Core Duo T2050 1.60GHz
100GB
1GB
15.4IN X-black
XP MCE

£699

Think the bottom one is out of question now as its outdated cos of Vista.

So is it better to pay the extra £50 to get a Core2 Duo processor ????

Hey, I literally took delivery of the 11 s/w yesterday, i didnt want Vista as theirs no dought a few teething problems, plus just how uch of the laptops resources is it gonna eat up? you have to bear in mind I spent about 1 1/2 hrs last night removing all the sony guff off mine!, then its started to run and boot very quickly.

Plus £699.99 is WAY to expensive, didnt pay near that much.

So far im really really liking it, great screen on it.

I was just using the Sony Style site as the spec site. I can shop elsewhere for prices. I was just wonderign really what the difference between the T5200 and the T2250 was ? Apart from C2D against CD. Does it make that much difference.

As far as Iam aware the Core 2 Due is the more powerful of the two, and, if your wallet allows it, is the preferred.

So now it's just a matter of deciding if I go for faster notebook but with Vista on it (will use more resources) or the slower notebook but have XP MCE on

 i think the 50p coin needs to be flipped :lol

lol.......I hummmmmmmmmmmmmmd and haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad about it for about a week, but had more doughts about Vista than having a slower machine if ya get my meaning, like all laptops, I suppose it really depends what you need them to do.

I'll just be happy with one that boots up in quick time and doesnt take half an hour to load up firefox and applications.

I think the old celery 1.7ghz 256mb ram Toshiba laptop has had it :D

Well so far, things like Word, Explorer have all ran fine, like I said I removed mos tof the stuff that Sony pre-install on it, brand new it had 54 processes running, coudnlt believe it, once all the Uninstalls where done, went down to about 40.

Running Quark and Photoshop in mine, depending how many layer you have PS is OK, i big slow on larger files and stutters with brushed etc.....Quark was fine, havent tried much else on it to be honest.
