Intel Core i5-2500K temp problem

Hi, I am having some temp issues with my Intel Core i5-2500K, the idle temp is around 40oC and under full load fit reaches 90+ very quickly. One of the cores actually hit 97oC . Am using coretemp and speedfan to measure the temps.

I tried reseating the heatsink and applied new thermal paste but it made no difference. I also tried my Thermaltake big typhoon but the temps are still hitting 90 degress.

BTW the CPU is running at standard clocks, and all drivers and bios are up to date.

System info:
Asus p8p67 LE
G.Skill RipJaw 4GB
XFX 6850 gfx

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

that just sounds wrong...

- you reseated the heatsink
- you replaced the thermal paste
- you are running at stock

is there a possibility the chip/sensor is damaged?

Is there a way to check?

what rpm is your cpu fan running at? also does it speed up under load?

CPU fan is running at 1337 rpm. This is the maximum, I turned off the speed control in the bios and set it to run at maximum rpm.
