Intel Core i5 2500K Temperature under 100% load

hi everyone, my cpu is clocked at 4.8Ghz but when im running prime95 there is no linearity between the temperatures.

Mamimum temperatures
core 0 = 72
core 1 = 79
core 2 = 78
core 3 = 77

For what reason is core 0 much lower than the others, considering the cpu is 100% underload. Do you think the thermal paste is not spread properly?

I see the same on my i7 2600k, core 0 sits 3-4 degrees lower than the other cores on both idle and load. I wouldn't worry about it, I highly doubt it's due to thermal paste or block/heatsink mount.

my 2600k core 0 on idle is only 1-2 degrees cooler than the others but under load it can be as much as 9 degrees cooler than the rest. I wouldn't worry about one core being lower than the rest at all. Look at it this way its much better than that core running hotter than the rest:D its the hottest core you want to worry about.

I would guess cores 2 and 3 should be hottest given they have a core to each side of them.

The one nearest the GPU is probably coolest (don't know if this is 1 or 4) given that its not in use for P67 boards.

You will always get variations in temperatures across cpu cores. The Integrated heatspreader could not be completely flat and the same for the heatsink base.

Agreed - you'll have the same problem with most CPU's. It's nothing to worry about.

Although, you are letting your chip get quite toasty there.

I'm glad this was brought up. Good to know it's normal. Out of interest I've just been playing a game and notice coretemp says max temps reached:

Core 0 44C
Core 1 46C
Core 2 47C
Core 3 49C

Stock speeds.

Interesting to note core 0 is cooler than the others too.

I have the same temp spread so glad it appears normal.

I did wonder at first but read a few threads. Glad I did that before reseating the cooler.

Your temps do seem on the high side though.
