I have a i7 920 @ 4ghz and I do a lot of photo work and video converting with some video editing and I like the latest stuff but was wondering if the Intel Core i7-2600K is worth the upgrade?

Nah that 920 is still fine :) Yes sandy bridges are great chips but you can easily wait for ivybridge with that system you got.

Nope. If you can pick up a second hand 980X, that would be worth the upgrade.

Not really, for the price of a second hand 980X you could get a 2600K and a P67 motherboard to go with it and still have change left over.

Anyway as said, having already got a core i7 920 it is not worth upgrading at the moment.

Upgrading to a 980X will cost more than sandy bridge, but crucially the 980X would be faster (coming up for 50% faster) than his current 920, and sandy bridge would be around 10% faster assuming he got a hyperthreaded one.

lot of photo work and video converting with some video editing

That doesn't sound like gaming to me.

^Yeah sorry mate didnt read the OP carefully enough about that, so yes you are correct what youve said then

I do play games but I ant been recently as It don't interest me so much anymore.

So my best bet is keep saving and get a 980x? though for that kind of money I may not bother, I may just stick with the 920 and get a gtx 570 or 580 as I have been meaning to go nvidia for a while.
