Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping - Looking good

Oh my these are nice figures... I cannot justify upgrading to an i7 at the moment although I could go out tomorrow and just blow a hudge budget on a new system I feel it's not worth it at the moment because there are still a few bugs with some of the motherboards which will be resolved in Rev versions.

Guys,

Thought I'd share my preliminary i7 920 D0 overclocking results.

I discovered only this weekend, that with the latest BIOS for the Asus R2E you can select 21x multiplier in the BIOS without having Turbo or C States enabled. With C States enabled (C6) and Turbo on, the multiplier is fixed @ 22x ;)

I can't be sure if this has always been the case, as my previous chip was an i7 940.

Anyway, 4.2Ghz LinX & Prime stable (so far) @ only 1.312V...

My i7 940 would only do 4.0Ghz and required 1.4V. So this little chip looks like an absolute gem!

I'd get the thermalright ultra-120

My C0 does around 3.8ghz at the voltages they are running at, guess its quite good for a C0.

Using a Thermalright Ultra-120 as well, until I get my cooling loops sorted again. Its too bloody big though, I cant get the side on my Ascension now :/

I've got my C0 running everyday at 3.8GHz using 1.38750v using a TRUE.

It gets to 79°C when running Prime and 79°C when running LinX, but these are not typical-use examples.

Sure, I would like a chip that runs 4.2GHz with stock volts, but I'm not sure that I can justify more £££ to upgrade from my current unbearably slow CPU.

my D0 stepping chip is currently sailing through prime at 4GHz

using 1.18v :)

60'C max across all cores

Is it just me or does it seem rather pointless to post your prime temps without telling us what cooler your using? Unless of course you are just wanting to show stability in that case I am just an ass in this senario.

Well here is my overclock, with 20 passes of LinX 0.5.8, with 8 threads. (HT - ON)

I'll get another fan for a push/pull config, should lower the temps even further.

Nice results there too Nelly !
Thanks :)

4.2Ghz seems to be the sweet spot for my CPU, can do that on 1.26v fully stable :) takes a big voltage jump for 4.3ghz as seen below.

Got some OCZ Blade 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-16000C9 2000MHz arriving tommorow, will see if that gives me more headroom. :)

4.2ghz - 20 passes on LinX - stable on Air with Biostar TPower X58
