looks very interesting (dunno if its been talked about before)

ps. if this belongs in CPU section.. im sorry

In the future, the Core i5 line will remain on the LGA1156 socket, although Intel could add some varients of LGA1156. Core i7 will be split between LGA1156 and LGA1366. A new product line, called Core i9, is anticipated to debut on LGA1366 only. These will be super-premium processors with at least six cores.

Old news kinda.

It's thought that the current flagship i7 CPU will be replaced by the Hex core "Gulftown" which is sometimes referred to as the i9 for whatever reason.

Only the high end extreme version for £700 is planned so far. I would like to get one if they can make a £200-300 max one at 2.66 - 2.8 Ghz for an I7 920 upgrade.

It kind of sucks having an X58 setup and being outperformed in games by the I5 750. P55 has gotten much better treatment over the last few months, now I hope they can release a full line of 32nm hex cores at all price points for the X58 users.

Old news but still very interesting. I've got an i7 920 @ 3.6 hopefully this will last until gulftown becomes affordable in a few years time. Sometimes wonder if I should have gone for i5??

Actually, Intel recently revealed that they are planning to release a multiplier locked Gulftown called the i7 970 in Q3 2010. Have a look at this thread.

The 970 looks like it will take up the i7 960 price point - so it will cost about £450. This still rather expensive, but nowhere near as bad as the £750+ 980X.
