Jeez... it used to be that CPU price was based on performance. Does that still hold true? I'm confused as there are so many combinations of cores, fsbs and prices.
I'm going to get an Asus P5 Deluxe and would appreciate your recommendations as to what cpu to put in it. I'm not looking to OC (unless I find some more time).

The advise around here is to go AMD if your not going to overclock. I have just installed a bargain CPU, 3800 X2 @ just over £40 :D Too early to say whether it is an improvement on my previous 3500+

I should add £40+ delivered

Thanks Lonewolf. The option to be able to play with a decent overclocker would be nice (erm, having written that, it sounds dodgy but I mean a cpu honest!). I thought these new Intel cpus were the bees knees and that their performance is better (for the price) than anything that AMD can throw at them? Am I believing the hype a little too blindly?

At stock there's some parity it's when you start overclocking that Intel strides ahead. All based on peoples feedback BTW.

If your going Intel then, the 2160 is an awesome bargain reaching 3.0GHz and beyond for less than £60.

Those MB’s aren’t cheap so I assume you have a reasonable budget.

Intel Quad cores must be very good value for money at the moment.

It would depend though on what you use your PC for and how much of your software takes advantage of a Quad core CPU.

This opens up a whole new can of worms of course.

Edit: You could try this Link and enter your own CPU in and get some idea of performance comparing it to different CPU’s running various software.

Not exactly conclusive but perhaps interesting and useful.

Ive heard good things about the e4300, but if you can stretch the e6750 is supposed to be an insane clocker at around £115

lol that just abouts sums it up dosent it. That is far from the case.

If your not overclocking you will get a faster and cheaper AMD CPU than you would if you went Intel. End of story.

If your overclocking then Intel wins hands down.
