I'v got a Zalman HD135 htpc setup which until yesterday had a amd setup x2 3800+ OC'ed to 2.2ghz and ran temps of 35c idle and 47c full load. The amd still couldnt really cut it with 1080p HD be it mkv or HD-DVD's so I thought id go for an intel setup I changed the motherboard out and had a D930 lying around so stuck that in now the temps are between 50c to 69c!!! at one point it hit 75c (while testing with sp2004 i stopped test as it wasnt slowing down). I'v been told I should get a C2D as they run much cooler, which I have in my main rig and it runs cool but will it be closer to the amd setup I had or am I looking at a few degrees below the D930.
Just so you have an idea of what the setup is
Before
AMD AM2 X2 3800+ OC'ed @ 2.2 | Silverstone NT06 + Noctua 120mm 600rpm
Asus M2V
1GB (2x512mb) corsair XMS
MSI 7300GS fanless
2x 500gb sammy, 1x 400gb seagate, 1x 10GB seagate
Pioneer 111D
FloppyDTV-C
Enermax liberty 400w
Now (only listing changes)
Intel D930 stock at 3.0Ghz | Silverstone NT06 + Noctua 120mm 800rpm
Asus P5N-E SLi
2x AcoustiFan DustProof Quiet 60mm 2700rpm
1x Noctua 80mm 1200rpm
Another Noctua 120mm 800rpm mounted near gfx card
Should I see improvements with the C2D? I have been looking at getting the E6300.
