hey guys, could you please explain what I was told today and suggest some ram for the Intel DP55KG.

The ones I looked at in the shop the guy said wasn't sutible as they was triple channel and my board dosn't support that.
The 3 I looked at where:

Corsair CMP6GX3M3A1600C8 Dominator / PC3-12800 / 6GB / 1600MHz / DDR3 / 240 pin DIMM / Triple Channel Computer Memory Kit

CORSAIR DOMINATOR 6 GB (3 x 2 GB) DDR3 PERFORMANCE RAM
PC3-12800 1600MHz.

Corsair XMS3 memory 8GB
4 x 2GB - DIMM 240-pin - DDR3 - CMX8GX3M4A1600C9

Anyway I've had a look round and found this 1:

Could you please tell me if a DP55KG board could run that? I was quite confident about choseing ram but the guy in the store (pc world) said they get people returning ram all the time as the board won't support triple channel ram.

Finding it a bit hard to distinguish triple from double on places like ebay, all I basically want is some for around the £120 mark.

Thankyou for reading.

Hello and welcome to the forums :)

Triple channel ram would / should work in your pc but you would only be running single channel mode rather than dual or triple channel. But personally I would stick with dual channel.

Memory linked should work fine, also alternate set below which are on special this week. (end's Wednesday)

Thankyou very much :)

Could I buy x 2 sets of that ram and run them ok? or would I be best buying a set that comes with 6gb/8gb as a package?

Whats in that link is very cheap to what I got offered at pc world today, was offered 6gb for £185. They said that was the only none triple channel they had that would work on my board. So it would be great if I could use x 2 sets of whats in the link.

Thankyou for your reply :)

Aye, you should be able to buy two sets of the Patriot RAM which RJC linked to and run them fine. However, as you are occupying all the RAM slots you may have to reduce the RAM frequency to get them running stable.

Your motherboard/CPU supports single channel and dual channel memory modes, however it doesn't support triple channel mode - this is only available on X58 (s1366) systems. Hence - you want to run your RAM in dual channel mode for maximum memory bandwidth. This means you want to run it with 2 or 4 RAM sticks, if you run it with 3 then it will default back to single channel mode and you will have much less memory bandwidth.

Sounds like the purple shirts brigade at their finest again. £185 for 6GB is very expensive (prices for this stuff starts at £100 on OCUK (1600MHz), and this comes with a lifetime warranty) and if it was a 3x2GB kit it would only be able to run in single channel mode (very slow).

Thankyou very much for explaining that, I was rather confused after coming out of pcworld.
I will buy some of the ram via the link posted, it will save me loads of money as I was close to buying the pcworld stuff until a friend told me to come on here and say hi first and double check with you.
Thankyou very much again :)
