Hi!
I've had this Intel 965 board for around 12 months, with a few problems.
The original version of the BIOS that this board shipped with caused my computer to switch on for 3 seconds and then off, every time the mains power was switched on.
Around 2 months ago, I got fed up of it, and put the latest version of the BIOS on - which solved that one problem. Now I have a different one which didn't happen before -
Whenever I cold-boot, the PS/2 ports freeze up as soon as Windows 2000 gets to the login screen. The mouse works OK, if its connected to the USB, although doesn't work if its connected to PS/2. the keyboard is an old 1985 IBM PS/2 "Tank" keyboard and has no USB connector (And i'm certainly not about to ditch this keyboard anytime soon
).
If I connect the mouse to USB, I need to use the mouse to reboot the PC, and get it to warm-reboot, then everything works.
- Alternatively, if I'm quick enough from a cold boot, I press [F2] to enter the BIOS and use 'Save & exit', and the PS/2 ports work fine.
(I can't understand why the PS/2 ports work fine up til the point that Windows loads!)
If this weren't enough, My Belkin Wireless G USB adaptor doesn't seem to be very fond of sharing with other USB devices, and has a tendency to freeze up the entire system if I connect the mouse to a USB port (Although I think this is a problem with the adaptor itself, I'm looking to replace it with an Ethernet-based one). The freezing issues seem to be random, but I assume they only happen when its trying to receive a very large number of packets at once
Has anyone got any suggestions about how to fix the PS/2 issues? (I'm still waiting for Intel to release a newer version of the BIOS, and hoping they fix it in there).
