Can anyone tell me is this package would be any good, the reason it has to be this package is that i have limited money and i want to upgrade step by step, now this will allow me to update from my current setup of 3200amd 2gb ddr1 ram, and agp graphics. The new package will allow me to use my old ram and graphics and allow me to upgrad to pci-e graphics and ddr2 ram when i have the money, would this be a wise choise or not?

Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 CPU (oh and can this be overclocked?)

£230 quid all in with a case and dvdrw included, i got this quote from a local shop.

Thanks in advance.

A lot of people have gone down that ASRock route and have been more than happy.

If you are thinking about overclocking it, I'd recommend the e4400, its slower at stock speed, but has a 10x multiplier. At least that's my plan. I've done some research, and that motherboard can't get any higherthan 300Mhz FSB, so the 10x multiplier on the chip means it will clock higher than the e6400/6420. Of course I think you the 6420 has 2MB more cache, so it's sortof a trade off. Oh yeah, and the e4400 is cheaper, too.

Hope all works out for you

main thing is the processor, if you're not looking to update the mobo/memory any time soon then the 4400 is the best bet.

if you're definitely gonna update, aside from the price difference mentioned, dont see any reason not to go for the 6420, although the speed wont be the same as the 4400 on the asrock it will be noticeable upgrade from you're current cpu, and overclock better on the next motherboard you get.

mp260767 is correct. My upgrading will take about 6-10 months before its 100% complete (I have a wife and kid to pay for) so i'm going with the e4400, as by the time I get a nicer motherboard, i'll probably get a new cpu as well. However, if you don't mind upgrading your CPU again soon, then you might as well get the 6420 as it will clock higher in the long run, with a better motherboard.
