They are great for £80 you cant go wrong mate Mine is now stable at 3.8ghz on air it will do 4ghz but i cant keep it cool enough to stop it shuting down

Exactly the same as mine, doesnt shut down at 4ghz but it throttles :(

I switched off my throttling as it was throttling at 3.8Ghz and bringing it back to 2.6 for a few seconds every few minutes

I can't find the option for that in my BIOS, care to enlighten me? :p

Whats a safe temp/voltage for these processors without any throttling safeguard. I also have cpu termination voltage  ranges from 1.25 to 1.4v

What motherboard are you using?

Rightmark cpu (rmclock) clock displays thermal protection policies and the option to disable them

Thanks, worked a treat :D Last time I looke don that site it was AMD only.

After reading this thread, am I right in thinking there are two versions of the 805?

If you order off an e-tailer how do you know, or how can you distinguish which one is which?

I work about 1/2 a mile from Overclockers if that might help ;)

Secondly is this the same chip architecture as in the Mac core duo? If not what’s the difference?

Cheers

Mine says the same Raikiri, but then I think we purchased them at a similar time from memory? (I'm not your stalker by the way! ;))

Anyway, aren't the 'B's supposed to be good?

I just can't get mine past 3.2 reliably, but at 3.1 it's solid as a rock! Might be my board though, as you kindly pointed out yesterday!! :D

I'm happy enough though, I look at it like getting a Pentium D830 for the price of an 805!

I had the same board as you buddy, the ECS PF5 Extreme, i could get mine to 3.4ghz with an akasa evo 120 cooler but any higher and it knocked out my sata ports and wouldnt boot from my hard drive:S so i think its the board tbh, its a nice one but not to good for overclocking:S

Hi!

Welcome to the forums :)

There are different steppings. You should be able to see the stepping on the outside of the retail box IIRC - you can then see if they've got your stepping in

It's very very different. The Mac uses the Intel Core Duo chip - this is a dual core Pentium M, based on the Pentium III. This has a low clock speed, but does a lot of work per clock cycle, just like an A64

The PD is two P4 cores slapped together.

This sounds like your busses aren't locked. There might be an option in your BIOS - see if you can lock your AGP or PCI-E speed

On some boards, not all of the SATA ports are locked or unlocked. Depending on your board, you might be able to move the hard drive to a different, locked, SATA port

Intel state 1.4V on the box and on their site, I would guess that would be a little on the safe side though. I have about 1.45V through mine I think. Actual though... not in the bios.

So according to this Toms Hardware page I want a B0 stepping which is only on the spec number ending in SL8ZH. Anyone confirm this? Who would be the best e-tailer to confirm this spec No.before shipping? Overclockers by any chance ;)

That seems to be the best stepping from the results obtained here

It's unlikely that Overclockers will check the stepping before they ship it, but if you can get to the shop you might be able to see what they've got in stock

My first attempt

Took on a lot of advice here on the forum - so thanks all ;)

This is my first attempt at overclocking - I brought the kit from OcUK and clocked this CPU to 3.8GHz (without any motherboard mods) :)

The maximum I got was 3.9GHz with PI score of 33 seconds on air and 100% util temp of 45 degrees. Specs in sig below.

Well it took me some time but I've finally got all the bits together to build my new rig and I'd like a bit of help on overclocking it as I've got a very similar system to a lot of people on here.

805d (B0 stepping)
ASUS P5ND2 SLI
Arctic freezer 7
1 gig Crucial Ballistix 5300
XFX 7900GT XXX edition
Coolermaster Stacker (already owned)
Seasonic S12 600W (already owned)

Ive managed to get it up to 3.6-3.65 by increasing the FSB to 230ish and increasing the CPU voltage to 3.5. The problem is i'm currently running my Ram at 1:1 which I know is far from ideal and the timings (something I know little about) seem very high. What are your exact setting darude or does anyone else have any hints for getting that little bit more?
