Intel Dual Core from £79 +VAT

I don't know the technical reason for it, but it's normal!

You have to have HT enabled in the Bios for it to recognise and utilise the 2nd core. I guess it's just telling the Bios to work with two processors, which is what HT is really, it's just not a physical one like in our 805's...

Either waym, turn it back on! ;)

yeah its back on now i got poor fps issues i need to sort out updated all the drivers then went into hardware manager and i got some unknown hardware and ive installed all the drivers  says device type others manufacturer unknown on pci to isa bridge tried everything , both processors are there and present working thats all good its fast as hell compared to my old rig :) just my fps issue now im only getting average 60 fps when on my old beast ii used to get 100 solid on cs source and i set it to how my old pc was set

Marcus,
Just out of curiosity, what spec was you old machine, I noticed you said it was a s754. I'm thinking that most S754 cpu's (except the very low end) from the A64 3000 onwards are going to be faster in single threaded applications than the 2.6 intel dual-core at stock speeds. Although, it does seem a bit slow yes. Probably be ok once you sorted all the drivers.

was an overclocked sempron 64 @ 2.5 ghz and no it feels nothing like this p4 its fast a fooook :D and all drivers sorted but its not ocing as a planned lol

Hey can you post some benchies with your rig cos i have something very similar except an AMD one

Athlon X2 3800+ 2.4 ghz
2gb OCZ Platinum
2 X 80 gb Hdds
X800 pro

I get about 27.5k on 3dmark01 which is all i have run and 35 sec on super pi 1M

Mine was a cheap upgrade too (well £500 lol), hows your pc compare?

sid

EDit / I mean the intel one not the AMD one

mines doing super pi @ stock in 43 seconds its not ocing like i thought it would just messes up allt he time ive never oc'd with an asus bios b4 lol

43 seconds @ stock is pretty damn nippy fo such a cheap chip - his x2 is oc's keep in mind

what are you full specs, maybe we could help you get a bit more out of her ;)

Hmm super pi is good, mine only did 40ish secs at stock. and tht was with bh5 ram too,

the 3dmark01 is not great tbh, that is a very large discrepancy between mine and yours. maybe 03 is a better test in that case

it gets in 03 8156 , and only has 1 gb generic ram at the mo and isnt over clocked , but why hasnt my card got a pci e power adapter

pent D @ stock artic freezer cooler
powercolor x800gto
1 gig generic ram
80 gb ide hdd
40 gb ide hdd
lian li pc 7 plus
hiper 480 watt psu
i really cant fathom asus bioses at all im on the latest bios for it and it just wont oc and stop stable  i did want an athlon x2 got it all priced up and i couldnt afford it and then i saw this and i wanted a dual core its faster then my skt 754 rig but its notas fast as it can be my fps in cs source everything full with hdr off on dust 2 is only 70 FPS my old 9800 pro kept @ 100 solid as same settings too, ive updated all drivers u name it and im stumped i think the fps may be down to the cpu bottlenecking the graphics im not sure

Yer again, your 03 score is also on the low side, mine does 11.6k without any OC on the graphics card, I think that your CPU at stock is severely bottle necking the graphics card. I mean it only has a 133FSB too, so i guess in non multi-threaded games, it gonna be as fast as the old P4 B series chips. Yeah you really need to sort out the OC'ing, Check out some other forums for similar issues,

People have been getting around 4Gs with this thing.

this is annoying i cant find bugger all on this :( right its on2.8 ghz duno how stable yet but i really need to know how to adjust things in the asus bios

well i think im getting somewhere this has been on now for 30 mins done 3dmark stressed the core out with a bit of prime 95 and heres where im at

counter strike is a very cpu bound game, i play it a lot on the celeron and its like wading trough treacle (i also have a 9800pro :D)

your problem is the low fsb, youl be wanting to get that up as high as possible

keep having a go at clocking it mate, im sure youll get it in the end

ive tried that this board is so bloody awkward too smart for its own good :@ theres no voltage options like it says there is at all this boards the least clockable imo wish i not brought it saved up a week and got the next one up or something

check to see if the pci / express bus are locked.
it might be like the vm i have.

if you cant find the option in bios, up the pci-express bus at 110
and thn try 166 x 20

good luck.

theres pci agp lock no pci e lock this is like the most least options in abis ive seen, its locked at 66-33 i tried a 512 kit of corsair and that wont even post @ 166*20 160*20 with one stick of generic ddr ram in works maybe i should switch back to my orginal bioscos i backed it up in case or should i try an agp card in this machine but then that defeats the whole object of me buying pci -E this is ******* me off bit time now lol
