Intel E6700 Processor

Really silly question here. Is this CPU capable of running on a 64bit motherboard?

Yes. 64 bit processors have been out for years. Im running 64bit windows seven on a 6700 just now.

it will run on any LGA775MB that is supports Core2 CPUs, as far as im aware, MBs arnt 64bit or 32bit

I thought it would be 64bit. I have a 32bit motherboard and want to upgrade the motherboard. Thanks for the information. Any recommendations on a good motherboard (I know we are in CPU).

I think I can easily clock it higher.

Its a great price for an x48 motherboard and it supports dual x16 PCI-E for crossfire and sli (as all x48's do)

Thats strange. If I try and run a 64bit live CD or install a 64 bit OS it isn't supported. Surely this is a constraint with the motherboard?

Are you sure you dont have a 32bit processor?

I could be. :S. Which is why I asked here whether the E6700 is a 64bit CPU . As this is a HP unit I may have to check the serial numbers etc of the CPU.

I think if you download cpu-z it will tell you what cpu you have.

Check the 64bit extensions are not disabled in the BIOS as well.
