I have just ordered an Asus P5K-E WiFi Motherboard and I'm just wondering if it will run an Intel E8400 Processor?

I wasn't going to upgrade my processor but seeing the price of the E8400, I can't resist.

Also, what do you think I'd be able to overclock it to with that motherboard? (I have a Big Typhoon CPU Cooler)

Agreed. on stock voltage you should get around 3.6 GHz or around that, anything else and you need to play with your voltage. That board will support it, but chances are you will need to update the BIOS. It won't just run it out of the box.

I take it the only way to do this is to source another core 2 duo cpu from somewhere, update bios, then insert new cpu? Dammit I wish my friends were into upgrading, finding one is going to be a nightmare.

How long d'ya reckon it'll take before most motherboards are shipped with updated bios (probably like asking how long a string is)?

indeed. If you have a few spare quid, you can pick up a dirt cheap processor on overclockers... don't think it would have to be core2 but don't quote me on that. Anyway, in theory yes, you will need to use another processor in the meantime.

and in regards to how long till the mobos ship with an updated bios, the old boards won't be shipped with them eg. P35 boards. Only new ones such as the X38 boards are shipped with updated bios' from what I know. If you havn't already bought your board I recommend going with an X38... new BIOS and in general a better mobo.

I have already bought my motherboard.

I didn't want to pay a lot of money for a new motherboard and got the P5K-E for £75 from a friend.

I looked at the X38 boards but they were all quite pricey and as I am upgrading to a Mac Pro soon, so this machine will only be used for games.

I have a Core 2 Duo E6600 currently so I will update the bios using that processor before I buy the new CPU.
