Hi. I'm about to purchase a laptop with Intel GMA 4500 MHD integrated graphics (64mb dedicated & roughly 1200mb shared). It is based on the GM45 chipset. All I will be using the laptop for is surfing the net, watching DVD's & the usual Microsoft office applications such as Word & Excel. I won't be using it for gaming or getting involved in anything to do with video. Can you tell me if the 4500 MHD will comfortably meet my needs please?

Thanks :)

Hey nevski,

I'm using a similar IGP, plenty good enough for everyday use and videos (I use it everyday to watch BBC iPlayer etc).

You can even do a spot of gaming if you play at conservative settings (I can just about Play Team Fortress 2 at HD res!).

Asking this for someone else, is this chipset good enough for doing video editing (adobe premier elements 2) and some photo editing (ps cs3), on a vista 1680x1050 dekstop?. Got a feeling it wont be upto the job, but have no idea on requriements for the above tasks really, but a bit concerned that it would be shared system memory (although it has 6gig total).

thanks
joe

As long as you have enough ram and a reasonably quick cpu, it should be fine.

I do light PS work on my atom 1.6 with 2gb + gma 950 and that can cope ok even though it's much slower than a standard cpu + igp combo.

Yeah, dual display too! :)

I got a feeling you may be underestimating the Intel® GMA X4500HD . . . I know I used to think built in graphics were pants but have been pleasently suprised with the Intel® onboard graphics!
