Hi guys, been an Intel guy for over 25 years, never built an AMD system but I am going to make the swap.

Currently I have a 10900K, 3080ti, 32gb RAM and 2x 1TB m.2 drives.

The only thing going into the new build is my 3080, I will keep my current system for my son and stcik a 5060 or something in it.

I just generally use my PC for gaming, some 3D modelling, and some video encoding. I don't really have a budget, but I am set on the 9950X3D.

I don't want to bottle neck any future graphics card upgrade. I also want full bandwith out of two new M.2s. I also want plently of headroom on the PSU, hence 1200w.

This is what I have specced, I just need to know if anything here would be bottle necked, or there is a glaring error. I also need advice on a AIO for the CPU. I will sort a case out too.

Cheers!

You're massively overspending on a few things unnecessarily.

Motherboard review, they also compare it to the one you selected if you read through:

The Asus TUF Gaming really isn't worth the extra £50 in my opinion.

PSU is still hugely over specified, but is a quality bit of kit and a fair bit cheaper, you'd probably be fine on a good 750-850w unit tbh.

The RAM you've chosen is fine, while "C30/6000" is the sweet spot X3D CPU's aren't all that fussed about memory speeds, at least for gaming. I wouldn't personally spend another £30-40 on RAM for very minimal gains given your processor choice.

Much cheaper GEN4 NvME which is still high quality, you wouldn't notice the difference in 98% of actual usage between it and the one you were looking at.

Same. I want to upgrade from Intel/Nvidia to AMD. I want something with the same power as what I have now which is a INTEL CORE I7-14700K + RTX4070ti + Gigabyte Aorus Z790 Elite DDR5 + 64gb DDR5
What would be the equivariant AMD system? I'm not sure if I should swap the graphics card though. Should I swap for a AMD card or keep my RTX 4070ti.
Thank you.

the only thing i would add here is the 9800x3d is all you need. it would be an astronomical upgrade over your 10900K
and its £200 cheaper to put into your new gpu

The SF is a great PSU but you are paying a premium for it being SFX, why use an SFX PSU in a full size build?

I got my SF PSU as i was thinking about doing a ITX build. (changed my mind due to cost)

One benefit with short cables is if using extensions to cable tidy/prettify you do not have much excess cable length to hide.

You can get the Antec HCG1000 Pro for less than the Corsair SF, so see if you can exchange it.

Thanks guys, I made a boo boo there didn't I with the PSU. I didn't realise it was small form factor! Doh! I haven't opened it and I will exchange it for one recommeded above! Any links to a basic overclocking guide for a 9950X3D? I haven seen a few YT vids, but all seems a bit extreme.

Also, can I just enable EXPO in the BIOS to get the RAM to run faster, or becasue it is 6000MHz and C30, shall I just leave it alone?

Cheers

I've got the 1000w PSU and it is spot on. :) But go for the 1200w variant if you want that one. Yes you have to enable EXPO, to then choose 6000 CL30. :)

Did you order any extra fans for the case ?

Don't bother with overclocking the CPU it's not worth it.

First boot on AM5 can take up to 15mins for anything to show on screen and may reboot a few times this is because the motherboard is training the memory so be patient.

Yes, I have ordered a pack of three QL120mm for the side intake plus one additional one for the rear outflow. these will go with the three QL120mm fans on the corsair AIO I ordered. Not sure where to put the AIO rad, side intake I think rather than the top.

Thanks for the info on the OC. I have OC'd all my Intel CPU's over the last 25 years, all the way back to the E6600 I think. If the general consensus is to not do anything with it, I will just leave it, do you know about enabling EXPO for the RAM?

Memory training at first boot usually sets the optimum frequency but it's best to check later in the bios . If not enable expo profile there may be a few options but and you want 6000mhz.

All built! Slight panic when I first booted, nothing on the monitor connected to my 3080. I waited as I thought it was memory timing etc. Turned off and on etc, still nothing on the screen. Then plugged a TV into the HDMI on the mobo and it was asking about some new CPU installed etc. Selected Yes and it booted to the BIOS.

All is good apart from one of my monitors connected to my 3080 via display port isn't working. All Nvidia sofware installed. I can plug the monitor into one of the other display ports and it works, so its not the cable or the montior. Not sure what to do. I have just ordered a HDMI to Display Port cable so I can use the HDMI on the 3080 or possibly the mobo?

Just wondering what you might suggest to maybe get the display port on the 3080 working? I t has been fine for the last 4 years or so.

Ignore! After reseating about 10 times, I decided to go get the new 5060ti I bought for another PC, stuck that in and it was still not working. I then unplugged and plugged in the monitor (done 50 times on the 3080 to no avail) and the montior kicked into action. Put the 3080 back in and all is working again. Not sure what happened or really what fixed it, but all good now! Thanks for the help, not sure how I can easily post a pic of the rig, but its looking great!

Take a picture, upload it from your PC to IMGBB. They give you BB Forum code which you can then just copy and paste in your post. :) Or, you can right-click the uploaded image and say "copy link" then in your post you can click the "insert image" button and pop in the url that way.
