Intel HD2000, does it support HDMI audio over its DVI?

Hi all

I have a small PC next to the TV with a Asus P8H61-M LE/USB3 Intel H61 Mobo in it, up until recently it was hooked up to a grubby 28" Toshiba TV via the TV's VGA connector and a 3.5mm for audio.
Well I finally blew off the cobwebs from my wallet and splashed out on a new TV, yay :)
I was hoping to use DVI connector on the Intel HD2000 Mobo to connect to the HDMI on the TV, so I can enjoy 1080p and pretend i'm at the cinema ;p
I've tried a tonne of things and nothing seems to work, I get a picture but no sound. Boo :(

I connected my main PC (Nvidia GTX275 in it) up to the TV via the same cable and it passed the audio through fine. There was an option in the NVidia control panel for such a pass through. So the cable and the DVI/HDMI adapter seem to be working fine. Problem seems to be HD2000 doesn't support Audio over HDMI or I'm thick and cant set it up correctly as there seems to be no equivalent option in the Intel control panel.

So I was wondering does the Intel HD2000 integrated graphics on the Asus board support Audio being passed over it? I tried searching both Asus and Intels websites for details but they dont seem very clear on if it can or not :)

I was thinking could i just slap a Nvidia 610 Passive cooled card in and use that?

Do I have to get a 610 (or any other £30 GFX card) that has support for Audio over HDMI or do all 610s come with it as standard?

Cheers for any pointers in the right direction :)

... and feel free to recommend a cheapo GFX card that you know supports audio over its HDMI port as I have a funny feeling i'm going to have to dust off my wallet again ;p

Weird, do u mean I wont get audio out of the DVI on a HD2000 Mobo or all DVI connectors in general?
As Ive gotten audio out of my GTX275 DVI port, as I hooked up my Main pc to the tv and had audio using the same cable and adapter that the HD2000 PC is using

From my understanding from a few people on the AVforums DVI and HDMI are pretty much the same, in reagards to this problem. HDMI having a higher bandwidth capability and a few other things that went way over my head :) But both can carry Audio over, not along dedicated wires ofc, but encoded digitally onto the cable as how the video signal is sent.

Ive heard reports that the HD2000 is meant to support audio over its DVi, but getting it to work is a bit hit and miss :(

Cheers for the reply though :)

Ahh, I'm wrong. Some graphics cards (which assuming the IGP you have) can output audio over DVI. My bad sorry.

No hdmi out on your mobo I assume?

Edit: If you are having major headaches with it though. Any cheap AMD/ATi card or NVidia (can't vouch for NVidia personnally) that can do hdmi should be fine and dandy.

Yeah i'm afraid I was really cheap when I built the PC, it only has VGA and DVI.... that'll teach me to scrimp :)

I think your totally right about me just biting the bullet and saving myself a lot of headaches by getting a dedicated card with a HDMI port on it.

and if my misses moans at me for buying "more stuff from Okkyclockers" I can print off this post as proof that I "had" to ;)

(dunno why she cant grasp the term Overclockers.... she insists that its "OK Clockers" and that this whole webpage is just one big typo lol)

Thanks again :)
