OCUK can you ask intel to get i7 920 D0 'K' range for unlocked multiplier for 1366 socket.! It a pity all customers who already had i7 920 D0 cpu stand no chance of unlocked multiplier, thank alots Intel.

Will Rich from OCUK will do benchmark for this new i7 875K and i5 655K for a review ?

920 D0 is End Of Life bulldog, that means no more will be produced, ever.

the K chips are not extreme editions, they are just designed to be good clockers.

extreme editions have unlocked multipliers to be used for extreme cooling.

these have unlocked multipliers that add value to the chips

it is very VERY unlikely that intel would make their base model of a range with an unlocked multiplier. this would render the more desirable extreme editions useless.

besides, these chips are aimed at the mainstream market, not for those who would look at buying something like an Intel Core i7 980X 3.33GHz (Gulftown) Extreme Edition (Socket LGA1366) - Retail 6 cores, 12 threads!

i wish people would stop saying 6 cores and 12 threads! or i might end up doing something silly and buy one, then cry as i live off beans for the next 2 years. :/

:) Buy one if you can afford it but I rather wait until i7 970 come out with it as I were expecting this will be half price than i7 980X !

So is the benefit Clocking or MultiThreading (or both)?

Was waiting until tomorrow's this week only deals to come through before finally jumping off the fence and don't know if i now need to consider these over the 1090T and I7/930 that are currently in the mix. I want for gaming and some photo work, probably with pre-overclocked package (incl 5870) which I will not be tweaking very much.

hopefully theres some solid dates for the 970 6 core soon as i can smell it, the p55 guys getting the unlocked i7 is the final doggy bone until thier socket gets replaced by the sandy bridge version in Q1 2011.

the 970 is probably going to be the last bone the x58 gets i guess too and for £400 hmm not a penny over that and hopefully below it or at least a 920 killer with 6 cores at the £300 mark.

Q3 2011 for 6 cores sandy bridge cmon intel we need something now stop drip feeding us or we will come round and lynch you out of fustration.

These seem a little pricey? Are we just looking at launch prices or is this a result of the terrible exchange rate?

Intel Core i5 655K is £40 over the standard version but these were never appealing CPUs, Intel Core i7 875K is £110 cheaper than its older brother i7 870. I wouldn't call that pricey, bearing in mind Intel's policy on unlocked multi CPUs.
