Was wondering if its worth upgrading my Mobo and CPU atm from PII x4 [email protected].
I've seen raving reviews of the Intel CPU's with gaming, if the improvements cant be seen over my current set up il just pop some more GPU Juice in my rig, I'm mainly thinking of Rift atm and some new games like BF3.

Sorry for another i5k and i7k thread :S

Does your setup struggle with the games that you currently play at the settings that you want? If not then there's no point in upgrading.

I don't think you'd see a massive difference in a 4ghz quad core to a SB. I did coming from a C2D 3.6ghz but I'd attribute a lot to the extra cores.

Thanks for the hasty replys, When i get a sniff of payday i hunt for new items and upgrades lol.
I'll check out a new gpu or a 2nd 5850 for gaming :) thanks guys and gals

Rift is a tricky beast. I have heard from several people that claim very large performance gains from upgrading to the new i5 and clocking it past 4.5.

I play with graphics setting and overclocking on my older 5770 and frankly it does not do a whole heck of a lot fps wise in either direction which leads me to believe my cpu might be the culprit.

while the Intel Sandy Bridge CPU's do offer tangible performance improvements while also lower power consumption I think in your case your top priority should be a more modern graphics card. The GPU is still the no1 factor when it comes to gaming performance followed by CPU and RAM capacity (RAM speed is more of a fine tuning thing).

Hey mate,

I'd go the second 5850 route, clock them up a bit (after disabling ulps in the registry or afterburner throws a wobbly!) and you'll be set. I have two 5850's in crossfire and the difference is very noticable :)
