Just installed my new 4770k, running stock with a h110 cooler in a pull config.

Temps are jumping between 30-50 degrees while installing a game, ran a 3 minute prime test and it hit 65-71 degrees across the cores.

I know these like to run hot but that seems very hot. are these normal temps i should expect to see?

Temps are ok, is the CPU at stock or over clocked. How many other fans are in the case and are they exhausting.

Just tried to reseat my cooler just in case and the back plate screws are just spinning round so i dont know if the cooler got a good hold on the cpu. temps are hitting 41-44 just on start up.

Surely it should not get that hot with a h110,

temps are jumping from low 20s to low 40s on idle.

Is it work me trying the stock cooler?

I am not sure if you watched any vid of people delidding haswells. The stuff intel put in those is some cheap crap, so temps tend to jump a lot and peak very high. Yours getting to 70 isn't bad at all. I have seen a few peaking at 95.

71 degrees is pretty cool considering it's a Haswell.

Edit: Yeah you will notice it jumping the temperature. I had to reseat my h80i for my Ivybridge and that helped a lot, but 40 degrees jump is nothing. I'd suggest running a stress and seeing how well it fairs over an hour, if it's still about 71 degrees I'd say that's pretty acceptable.

Ive never gotten the idea behind water cooler fans pulling air in...you're just filling the case with heated air. An idle 4770k should be under 30c now that winter is getting here.

I think your're having way too high temps with H110 and haswell stock. It is one of the best coolers in the market.

The fact that your screws are spinning on their own is alarming. Perhaps you tightened them too much, or is your backplate in the right way?

Remember, the backplate only goes there one way. It has an indent that must be placed upwards to align with the socket screws.

Morning guys,

Pc was set up by a "computer tech" hate that term as everyone seems to be one! But when i tried to loosen it the metal pins that go into the back plate are spinning in the backplate. Also the back plate can only be fitting one wat round according to manual so it must be a problem with the back plate.

Iv never had a problem like this before so not to sure what to do! I was going to try and fit stock cooler but i cant imagine temps would be any better with it!

Was this in a shop? If so, take it back to the shop and complain about shoddy service.

If it was a "friend", thank them with a fist in the face for breaking your expensive cooler's screws. If the screws spin in the backplate without moving up or down, he tightened them too much or something.. probably with a screwdriver instead of fingers. Remember to push the backplate towards the mobo while trying to unscrew.

In any case, get a refund / replacement from whoever broke it. The stock cooler will give same/worse temps.

It might be he hasn't used the Corsair backplate which came with the H110... Which would mean your H110 isn't making good contact with the CPU... Causing the high temps!

On second reading it seems the cooler isn't mounted correctly, when I mentioned about having to reseat mine it had the same spiking in temps.

As what Make has said, get it sorted with a refund or a replacement seems it hasn't been done correctly.
