***Intel i7 4790K Owners thread***

Cheers, temps are still high during stress test, but for real usage gaming / encoding there in the 60C's.

Your IHS got damaged? I've got a bunch of AIO coolers and still fine after couple years use. Not sure what would cause that tbh.

I had a 4770k before the 4790k which had a damaged IHS with a poor attempt at delidding. I'm wondering if the H100i surface could now be damaged too!

While the temps are high 70c at 4.7ghz running 1.1vCore @ +0.02 offset, its not crashed and seems fine.

I would have thought a 4770K with high 70c's @ 4.7Ghz is really good? If you can run that stable count your blessings :D

I only OC for benching, use @ stock for 24/7 use.

Sorry, maybe I'm not explaining myself! :(

I bought a 4770k for £100 off the MM and at stock it was hitting 100c. On closer inspection, the IHS was damaged and in no way flat - so the contact to the H100i was awful!

My reason for wondering if the temp on my 4790k are higher than they should be is due to the damage the 4770k "could" have done to the contact plate on the H100i!

Sorry, does that make more sense?

Worth checking the base of the cooler snips, might be scratched or nicked. At stock the only thing that gets mine over 90c is p95 ver 28.5. 83 in real bench when clocked, k2 air cooler.

Yeah, so which one does 4.7Ghz in the 70C's?

If that's the latest chip that your currently running I imagine your cooler is fine. Haswell just runs hot, 70C's @ 4.7Ghz is decent for an AIO tbh.

If you are checking for temps and stability, Intel burn test here >> http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/intelburntest.html

Test at standard or above will let you know how good your temps are.

Thanks Boomstick,

Wow, that's a massive step up from the Aida64 Stability Test... Had been happily running a 4.8 clock on games and Aida, no CPU issues at all, max CPU temps 72C on Stability Test, games about 55-60C. Intel Burn test runs into low 90s almost immediately and then crashes. Water temp controlled by aquaero can't keep up...

Will have to have a play with this and keep 'real world' vs 'stress test' expectations in mind...... (!)...

Thanks :)

Just ordered my 4790k and should be here on monday! Sadly not from OCUK as they were nearly £50 more expensive than one of their competitors! Very excited to change out my FX-8320, it's had a good run. Just debating whether i'm impatient enough to pay the £5.00 on the DPD site to have it delivered tomorrow. :D

Mate, I'm about to do the same.

May I ask which motherboard you went for? I'm currently undecided between Gigabyte and Asus.

Iv done that long enough that i came to a point were i sold my rig.
Ill be focusig on my family till skylake and psacal will show there faces (maybe even the good old volta.... if roumers are true)
Anyway.... its been long enough. Nothing is making me feel like i did with 2700k & 2500k

Silly question as your all going to say YES! :D

But would this give me any advantages in games over a 3570k @ 4.5Ghz?

Also considering the 5820k.

Should I just wait, as CPU is more than adequate for at least another year of top quality gaming?

Your CPU is more than adequate. Fight the itch...... :)

+1

Just went from a i5 4670K to the i7 4790K for no other reason but to get better benchmark scores :) topping out at 45 to 60'c with a H55 with 2x Noiseblocker NB-eLoop Fan B12-3 depending on what game l am playing with all cores locked to 4 Ghz, fps has for me not changed noticeable but hey, gained +1000 in firestrike lol.

Fight the urge :)

If your using a small form factor then 4790K is a nice chip. Otherwise 5820K is much better bet, the extra cores / threads. DDR4 support, soldered chip etc well worth the small extra cost. 5820K at stock is fast over-clocked it's a monster.

I have dead 4970k sitting around if ya want a IHS for that chip, but i would just sand it flat, as well as your cooler if ya think that is scratched too. I had to sand mine last time i swapped chip as the liquid pro had gone rock solid and wouldnt come off with alchohol or even solvent lol.

Getting some scary temperature spikes with 4.6Ghz @ 1.3v. Using IntelBurnTest.
